Ratsy's 100 word challenge (by springs...)

c'mon karn... you know you want to.. i can see your keyboard rattling with the effort of holding back your story from across the continental divide... i know you can't resist having an extra twentyfive words to spread havoc and mayham in....
double dog dare you to....

Difficult theme, but the genre choices are so wide that everyone on this site should be able to have a bash! :D

Liking all the entries so far :)

To who-ever wrote "Good Luck Nut" - Noooo! How could you do that to Timmy? - His girl! His nut! His hopes and dreams! His face!

Hope Timmy gets some Karma!

I think that 'Promises' is a beautifully sweet story (and I normally hate anything romantic).

As for guesses, I'm clueless. I may or may not know who wrote one of them.

Don't know if I'll get chance to enter, as I'm kind of busy. But...I've worked out why springs volunteered to do this. By posting every story herself, she's bumping up her post count even more! It's an attempt to take some kind of unassailable post count (as if she didn't have that in the first place). :p;):D

Heh. Yup, I definitely need the post count. Got Ursa to overcome... ;)

I've just had my first entry over count so to clarify - I've informed the entrant they have one resubmission to bring it under. I think that's as close as I can replicate the real thead where if a mod catches it in the editing window, they let you know.

So, one resubmission and if it's also over, the entry is disallowed. Is that fair, do we all think?

Seems right to me.

Actually, I don't think anyone else is writing stories. This is just springs' own, personal Challenge, and she wants us to vote for which of her stories is best so she can make a trilogy out of it.

Re the theme (reading through this it's coming up a lot)

'That old chestnut' is a joke or story that's a bit of a cliche. The Road entry is pretty close to it. But it can also be about a chestnut, or someone poisoned by a chestnut, or anything about conkers or... Whatever.

So it's maybe wider than it seems. :)

"The Road" -- The author makes use of the most banal imaginable situation to mock a certain literary style.

"Avenging Fairies" -- Elements of science fiction and fantasy are blended into a creative whole.

"That Old Chestnut" -- This vivid tale makes fine use of sensory details.

"To Beat One Other" -- Through the use of characters for whom can feel empathy, the author strengthens the impact of the ending.

"Promises" -- This bittersweet love story is sure to touch the reader's heart.

"Look here..." -- The author makes use of mythic themes to create a new legend.

"A Christmas Tragedy" -- The author spoofs the traditional holiday ghost story with a modern twist.

"Serial Killers Anonymous" -- This amusing story has fun with cliches of popular culture.

"Galactic Bus Ride to Grocery Planet 5" -- Through alien eyes, this merry tale offers a satiric look at daily life.

"Good Luck Nut" -- By reversing expectations, the author reminds us that things don't always turn out as desired.

"The Lost Portal" -- This story creates a magical feeling by contrasting it with the ordinary.

"Brothers in Arms" -- Multiple dark ironies can be found in this powerful story.

"Lite Bites" -- This imaginative story makes the reader wonder about the nature of reality.

"C'est marron" -- With sweeping language, the author conveys the passage of time in a poetic manner.
