Discussion Thread -- September 2014 75-word Writing Challenge

Wow! Votes! Thanks, Victoria & holland! Very greatly & humbly appreciated. Now I must get to reading the entries...

Thank you Bowler! And to celebrate your kind words, a 3 smiley salute! :) :) :)

(I apologize, though...as a space pacifist, I possess no ray guns. :))

Oh, tough month! Congrats to Ashleyne for the theme/genre choices...they really seemed to have opened the floodgates of our imaginations. For me this may have been the most consistently wonderful month of any 75 worder I've participated in. But I think I'm set! So I shall cease my prattling, and get on with things!

Short list:
Talysia
Victoria
Juliana
holland
Parson
Teresa
Hermit the frog

Finalists:
Glen (so funny and to me Almost Human perfectly captured the spirit of the challenge.)
Phyrebrat (beautifully written, PB! Amazing imagery.)
TDZ (very clever, Dusty!)
Culhwch (very funny, Cul, and wonderful last line!)
springs (so moving; a lovely, sad story...)
johnnyjet (really nice, jj! Terrifically told story.)

And my vote: Void! This is the story that stayed with me from the first reading; I think it's very powerful..I so feel the parent chestnut's anguish and sorrow; amazing in 75 words. Well done, Void! (And it should go without saying, but this of course is not a reciprocal-vote sort of thing. :))

Best of luck, all! Seems as though we may have another tight race on our hands!

right, so for better or worse (and if you disagree, i blame jastius' post on the first page of the discussion!) i could not identify with a human MC "personifying" an object as anthropomorphising. for me the stories that made it through the initial cull had to have a non-human character acting, speaking or thinking in a human manor. so unfortunately a lot of good stories didn't make it through my first but. having said that, my shortlist

Bridge of Sighs -- nixie
Made of Steel -- ratsy
The Moral Growth One Evening Of Those Inside a Dishwasher -- Cat's Cradle
Delicious Dealings with Dimwitted Deities -- Perpetual Man
K -- johnnyjet
Look, it's been a busy month guys... -- StilLearning
Felis Familiaris -- Culhwch
Three and Twenty Black Days, Even as We Try -- TheDustyZebra

Culhwch came close to getting my vote for echoing ecxactly what i imagine cats are thinking when they look at me, but in the end i could not go past TDZ's anthropomorphising triumph over the challenge..

oh, and thanks a lot victoria for the shortlisting of my "myth"

It was really tough to choose this month, but here is my longlist, shortlist and *vote*:

Victoria Silverwolf - Sublimation
*Cat's Cradle* - The Moral Growth One Evening Of Those Inside a Dishwasher
Glen - Almost Human
Flyerman11 - Encounter
Phyrebrat - Trophy Wife
Parson - Odin’s Last Day
Ursa major - Be Prepared…

Thanks for the mention, martin321. :)

And thanks for the mini-review, Victoria. :)

Martin! Thank you so much for the vote! Coincidentally, 321 is exactly how many times I would like to say "thank you"!! :) This rainy, very cold day in Finland just became a little bit warmer, merci!

:) You're welcome, Talysia!

And thank you kindly, Mr. Orange, for the listing! :)

Cat's Cradle: Thanks for the short listing. I guess my very dark story did not put you off.
