Discussion Thread -- September 2014 75-word Writing Challenge

It sounds familiar, but what a month. My short list approach 40 when I gave up on the idea of individual honorable mentions. So, well done everyone.
For better or worse I usually exclude any stories that contain the title. Whether I'm right or wrong in that decision is up for debate (some other time).
However, this month both Perp and Mosaix submitted stories containing the dreaded word that were soooo cleverly done that I could not ignore them.
Congrats to Perp who just beat out 48 close contenders.

What a great start to the day, not only do I get a vote from telford, but hope snuck in a stealth one too. So very grateful guys, it is very greatly appreciated.

Now to settle down and read them all.

Long list - Talysia, Karn, Juliana, Telford, Ratsy, River33 and Teresa.
Short list - Hopewrites, TacticalLoco and Judge.
The surprising SciFi entry from Judge did it for me in the end.
50 - Yay. / 50 - Boo, we can do better.

It's been a very good month, and although I've really enjoyed reading through the entries, it's been really difficult to pick a winner!

Firstly, honourable mentions go to Void, Juliana, A. Fare Wells, Bowler, Perpetual Man and Martin 321. I was able to narrow it down to four, and my runners up are Hope, Tactical Loco and The Judge, but my vote goes to Culhwch.

Well done, everyone, and thanks for the mention, Bowler!:)

With so many wonderful entries to choose from, even my long list is too farcically long to post. However, my vote finally went to Cat's Cradle for a brilliant illustration of things that I genuinely think happen in dishwashers all over the country.

Thank you for the mention Talysia! You've made my day =)

Thanks to springs and Talysia for the gracious mentions.

I've read through everything and have a short list that is anything but short. Once again the pure brilliande ofvthe entries is beyond measure.

A lot more considering to be done before I pick my vote.

Remedy -- A touching and sensitive look at things through the eyes of another.

martin321 -- A vivid, convincing glimpse into the military mind.

Teresa Edgerton -- A moody, chilling tale of the unexpected.

Culhwch -- A droll slice of life with a sting in the tail.

Boneman -- A darkly comic bit of Grand Guinol.

The Judge -- A heartfelt account of profound emotions.

Ursa major -- A merry romp with a wink to the reader at the end.

Hermit the frog -- A creative and imaginative game of words.

TheDustyZebra -- A subtle and surprising metafictional story.

The vote goes to "K" by johnnyjet for its very clever mixture of literary and scientific allusions.

Wow! Thank you so much Void for the vote! I've been a bit down recently over my writing, and your vote really lifts my spirits. It's very cool, thank you!

And thank you for the mention, Victoria! This all has made my day! :)

I'll do a final read-through tomorrow, and vote...I have a few favorites, but I'm still not sure--great month for stories. :)

Thanks for the mentions Victoria and Bowler...I must reread and vote...but probably not till tomorrow

For me it was between "K" by johnnyjet and "Dropship Sweethearts" by martin321.

Voted for "K", tough decision.
