Dr Who Characters whom you found to be Unlikable and of Little Use.

I just thought her acting was a bit wooden. Character was ok, but would have been better if she'd not gotten the hots for the Doctor

Interesting, I liked Martha. She was smart and a nurse. I thought that was cool. She also had to put up with a lot, trying to protect the doctor when he was at his most vulnerable.

A very much an underrated who companion. I liked her.(y)

Oh you rotten lot.
You may well have destroyed a central pillar of my entire childhood.
I remember, as a young boy of six or seven being madly in love with Zoe, in Dr. Who.
It’s something that seems clear to me, from a time of which I have very little memory. (which I’m not going to explain)
Reading this thread, I have been looking back at the history of the Doctor’s companions and have come to the conclusion that it was actually Victoria who stole my childish heart, even if I possibly transferred my affection to Zoe when Victoria left.
Oh sorrow! Oh anguish! To be so wrong, and to be so fickle as a child.
Can I pretend that my life still has meaning?

Meanwhile. Back on topic. I only liked Rose up to a point.
At first she was good and fun and the Doctor’s love for her was interesting and added to his character. (and The School Reunion was quite brilliant.) But the longer it went on the worse it got, and when DW was saving the world specifically because Rose was in it, it was too much.
(Oh! I also thought BP played a wonderful “The Moment” in the 50th.)

So I found Martha a lot of fun, but didn’t like where the "in love with him" bit was going.

The Sixth Doctor himself (worst of the worst), Tegan Jovanka (never breathes except to complain), Vislor Turlough, Adric, Harry Sullivan, Mickey Smith, Craig Owens.

Also, magic- I'm-the-doctor, -my-rep-is-so-great-yo, epic-music-play-while-I-talk-about-how-great-I-am, -and-no-one-shoot-me -Deus-ex-Machina-Doctor

So, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith, in various amounts, and probably the new guy.

Can Russel T Davies count as a character, somehow?

Or whoever (else) is responsible (he's the only writer whose name I know.)

I Really liked Martha a lot. But probably also because Freema Agyman is a Trekkie and particularly fond of DS9. So I'm kinda biased. She doesn't use the race card to my knowledge, but unfortunately some Whovians baulked at the idea of a black companion. Also they wrote her in to a corner with her pining for The Doctor.
I got kinda tired of Clara Oswald, as she always got her way and the whole pinkerton affair. Good ending of her arc though, if only....
Rose became a godmode sue, and became less interesting because of it.

Martha's character was sunk from the start. She might as well have been called Not-Rose.

That's a little harsh! The biggest criticisms of the 6th Doctor are wonderfully ironic in a way, as a lot of that behaviour, a slightly darker Doctor, someone who makes it clear he is an alien, the ego and arrogance and so on, the 6th trail blazed along with the 7th in his final season, it is de rigueur since Eccles for the Doctors of New Who to have that dark alien side that sometimes rears it's head!

And in fairness, the modern Doctor's dark side is much more than the 2 above Doctors. Look at the 11th Doctor when he loses his cool over Amy being kidnapped, first we see him walking through wreckage, taunting a dying Dalek "Imagine you were alone, a long way from home and in terrible pain, then, when you think it couldn't get worse, you look up and see the face of the devil himself" Then of course the wonderful scene with Colonel "Run Away" Manton, which from my Memory is the first time that the Doctor has ever genuinely completely and utterly lost his temper. Or we have Eccles ranting at Rose that humans are just "a bunch of primitive apes" and of course 10's "Timelord Victorious"

I have to disagree there, Caledfwich, I wasn't being harsh - I was holding back. The 4th Doctor was the trailblazer in the old series. He not only was more alien than his predecessors, he actually went all the way back to Gallifrey (which were some of the best episodes they made.) Look at The Invasion Of Time. A great TARDIS exploration episode with the 4th Doctor giving us a guided tour (swimming pool and all.) He was the first Doctor to seize the mantle of President of the Timelords (shouting at Barusa through most of his term). He very much lost his temper on several occasions (when it was appropriate to the story), even assembling the dread Timelord weapon known as the DeMat Gun. He even tore down the transduction barriers around Gallifrey to further his plan.
6 was a re-used actor from a previous episode (the same thing bothers me about Capaldi). The 1st Doctor owes the 2nd Doctor an apology for calling him a clown - the 6th Doctor is the clown. I hate clowns. Being randomly irritable is no substitute for actual dramatic gravitas in my opinion. The only bright spot during his mercifully brief tenure was the appearance of The Rani, who I wish they would bring back. The Rani is also a hero, by the way, for killing the 6th Doctor with her Time Funnel. Huzzah for the Rani!
I don't think I'm alone in my low assessment of 6, he wasn't even around long enough to do his regeneration scene.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this, I'm afraid. As far as I'm concerned Six sucks. He was why I quit watching until 2005.

I am not actually going to disagree with you! The problem with 6th is the same problem that caused a good few people to stop loving the 10th so much - both were often being written as complete bastards - it's where the Moff has saved the day, sure 11 and 12 have had moments of arrogance and darkness, but they have never really been complete bastards. 12 was starting to lean in that direction in his premier series, but that got curtailed right back for last years thankfully.

I have a Theory that the Timelord General, we have seen in the 50th special and Hellbent is actually Castellan Spandrell from Deadly Assassin!! Those beautiful lines "3 of them? It's my worst Nightmares come true!" and "12? OMG I didn't realise when I was well off" that is a man who has encountered more than just the War Doctor, that is a chap who has dealt with other regenerations. So, as far as I am concerned, he, well now, She, is Castellan Spandrell!

I just wish we could have seen the 6th Doctor that Colin Baker wanted to play, black leather jacket and all...

I liked Colin Baker's Doctor. I wish he had stayed around longer.

Tika in The Horns of Nimon, she kept a steady prattle on about how Seth was destined to defeat the Nimo. I wish Seth had thrown Tika to the Nimon.:)

I'll admit, I've only watched the "NuWho" but at the minute, the thread title just screams MARTHA JONES.

Quite literally, the WORST companion in my eyes.
Like yeah, I found Rose annoying, but at least the affection between her and doctor was mutual (eventually).

Martha was just dewy eyed and smitten and the Doctor had to shoot her down like every episode.

Really? If you look around here you'll find plenty of Martha fans. She gets far too much flak in my opinion. Clara on the other hand....

Don't get me wrong, I did like Martha, but as I said before, I just thought Freema Agyeman was a bit wooden sometimes. Plus I didn't like the repeat of the whole 'in love with the Doctor' narrative.

I actually really liked Clara. I like the origin story with the leaf, one in a gazillion chance of her parents even meeting. I liked the impossible girl part too and I like the portrayal of the character and the acting. And she's hot :) The only thing I didn't like was her ending, if they were going to kill her off they should have just done it.

I didn't even like the series with Martha. It just wasn't... fun.
Don't get me wrong. John Simm as the Master, stroke of genius.
But the whole Martha storyline was just a snore-fest for me.

And yeah, a lot of people like Martha. I don't blame them for that. To each their own and all that. But personally, I found it dull.

I liked Rory, I thought he was a good buffer between Amy and the Doctor. Also I thoroughly liked River Song, from that first enigmatic appearance in the library episode to the last at Christmas.

I do think that Sally Sparrow (from the episode Blink) would have been amazing if she could have come back as a full-time companion. Damn that actress and her impertinence for becoming a movie star ;)
