The October Challenge is up and here is your discussion thread.

Please note:

We invite (and indeed hope for) lively discussion and speculation about the stories as they are posted, so long as it doesn't involve the author explaining the plot.

I doubt that there are many topics I know less about than these. I run in groups where many people don't do Halloween at all. I avoid "Horror" stories like the plague. It should be a real challenge for me.

The princess of goblins did not disappoint. Hmm.

I haven't written horror in any form since my last creative writing class a few years back, and unfortunately, Mental Break is just a tiny bit too large for this. And doesn't really deal with bumps in the night.

This will take some thought...I think I shall have an easier time with the 300, all things provided...

Oh, Parson, surely you've read Thurber's "The Night the Bed Fell"? I'm sure you can manage things that go bump in the night. :D

It doesn't have to be Horror, though. I did include Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Also, of possible interest to you, Parson, if you look here you may find an aspect of the matter that is up your alley.

Cool theme. I love horror and things that go bump in the night. I've already written something, but I fear it may be too graphic and disturbing for a family friendly site. I'll see what else I can come up with.

Graphic and disturbing is what we like!

Post it up Ashleyne!

You are right that disturbing stories do tend to go over well with the voters here. But, on the other hand, since Ashleyne has a strong stomach, if she's worried that it might be too graphic for our family-friendly policy, she may be right.

When in doubt about these things, one can always run a story past the moderators.

I've read it several times -- and each and every time I'm practically falling off furniture myself through laughing so much. So if we can get a Thurber-alike in 75 words it'll be a strong contender for my vote!

Oh, nicely done, springs!

This should be fun... A couple of ideas are knocking at my door; I'll invite them in to play and see what comes of it. :)

Edited to add: I'm in. It's a quiet, rainy day here, so I've written a quiet, rainy sort of story. :)

Wow, i forgot what day it was and turn on Chrons to see two stories posted up! You guys are fast :) I do really like the theme...should be fun!

Nice entries springs and Juliana! :)

I may have ruined the mood with my entry... sorry :(

We better break the 50 entry mark with this month, as there really can't be any excuse for not coming up with something.

I hate spiders....

Actually I have not read Thurber's "The Night the Bed Fell." That is at least as far as I remember. I am however sure that I can do something. I am capable of writing dark stuff, look at last month. Now something that Thurber might write would be right down my alley. We will have to see if the old gnarly gray matter can grind something out.

I loved those, although I don't think that I would ever pray like that.

I'm in too! :) I thought about trying to write some dark horror story, but I went with the first thought that came to me..happy I did. Springs, Juliana, Remedy...I'm happy to join such fine company! Now to sit back, relax, and wait for other stories to roll in! Best of luck everyone, CC
