DISCUSSION -- October 2014 75 Word Challenge

Thanks Farntfar! Haven't read any of the entries yet, that always inhibits me, because they're so good... Which means it's a real treat when it comes to the awarding of points! I hate deciding which is best, but this way I get to read loads of great stories at the time.(y)

WooHoo - dodgems, I Luv them almost as much as RAY GUYS.
Bowler1 one puts his foot to the floor, burning rubber at a fast walking pace and leaving in a metallic cloud of ozone.
No. 16

"Come in number 91, your time is up … hey, Fred, do we have 91 boats?"

"Nowhere near."

"Number 16, have you some kind problem?"

throws bowler a life preserver. :D

jotun, i think your story is really nice. too bad your phone screwed up your formating by sending it all in a pile. but you had a nice little argument going there.
hurray for you for being brave enough to enter right off!
it took me a month of dithering before i threw my hat in the ring, when i started here...:censored:. and then i didn't even notice for a week that two whole sentances were missing.:p
it was the shortest 75 entry i've ever managed.

Only a little more than a day to get those stories in, and I hope we get at least a few more. (Let's keep HareBrain busy counting all those words.)

johnnyjet -- The author explores the nature of fear and the unexpected ways it may appear in this taut little tale.

Lukethebloody -- Even in an exotic setting, human nature remains the same, as this sharp fable reminds us.

StilLearning -- This heartbreaking meditation reminds us that the things which do not happen can be as tragic as those which do.

Bowler1 -- This fresh treatment of a classic theme is sure to stir the emotions of the reader.

jastius -- The author creates a new myth in this darkly poetic story.

mosaix -- This eerie encounter presents a chilling situation from an unexpected viewpoint.

alchemist -- This sly tale serves as a warning that the universe holds many surprises for us.

jotun913 -- In a vivid glimpse of a terrible situation, the author shows us that some dilemmas have no good solution.

Boneman -- By presenting an ordinary situation in a new way, this tale shows us that wonder dwells everywhere.

Ursa major -- By combining an imaginative look at mythic themes with clever wordplay, the author creates a treat for the reader.

BigJ -- The elements of a classic tale of terror are used to spring a playfully naughty joke in this witty story.

DavidEvilOverlord -- The author makes use of the trappings of dark fantasy to spin us a merry spoof.

Quellist -- A gruesome horror story builds to to an unexpected conclusion in this creative tale.

It feels rather strange not finishing the traditional lastminuters' list off with Ursa, but on the last day it stands at :Flyerman 11, Parson, Perpetual Man, springs, The Judge and TheDustyZebra. Which doesn't quite get us the fifty. Not that there aren't several hundred more who haven't gained their 'reiable' badge recently, or several thousand members who haven't dipped their toes into the water yet (or a few billion who haven't yet seen fit to register themselves), all of whom are evidently very welcome, even if their presence en masse would somewhat complicate the voting (and word counting, and poll construction).

It's all right, no pressure, you've got hours yet. springs (as a randomish choice) could write a trilogy.

That you feel strange is appropriate to the season, and challenge topic.

You're welcome. ;)

The word-count pixie, bored of having banned only one entry this month, has alerted me to the fact that some entries have double line-breaks between paragraphs. Obviously there's nothing wrong with this and it might be intentional, but I noticed that when I pasted my entry from Word it turned all the single line breaks into doubles. So something to look out for, if you're bothered.

Well on the last day my muse struck. I'm glad to do my part to push toward 50.

thankyou Victoria!
woohoo! i wrote a darkly poetic myth!! yay me! (next stop, my own pantheon! move over, karn! i am joining you on the myth-wagon! yay! giddy-up there you mythical horseies! )

(psst...chrispy! springs submitted already and was overcount :( .. a lovely tale filled with shivers of spidery goodness, too.. mustn't get bowlers rayguns all hetted up when she did submit already... )

Harpo! you threw your hat into the ring! (faints of shock)
quite a fine hat it is too!
a delicious parody of ghostly ghastliness offering a twisty trick to treat us with in its ending.
