Discussion -- March 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

It's interesting how some people write a few stories. I'm definitely in the same camp as CC - I generally only ever write one story. I might have a few different ideas, and have a couple of alternate starts, but I never finish more than one.

I think we've reached the point where we explain things, so I'll give it a shot. Apparently I confused nearly everyone with my story, which confused me because it was so clear in my head.

I got it! (I think). Made me grin.

I was not particularly happy with my story this month...

I really liked it, Cascade. I meant to shortlist it then forgot (sorry).

I don't think mine really needs explaining, other than to say it touches upon the metaphysical, existential need for biscuits in the universe.

For those who didn't want to bother trying to read my story: http://textmechanic.com/Reverse-Text-Generator.html

I really need to say that holland really flat footed me on this one. It was a great novel idea, and I felt I could only respond in kind with the comment.

So like an idiot I did it in my head. Only for him to tell me (by PM) that he used the generator. I did not even think of looking.

First, congratulations to Cat's Cradle for a well-deserved win!

Secondly, thanks for the mentions, martin321, Ursa major & Phyrebrat! Greatly appreciated!

Finally, I was pretty busy the last week or so and barely had enough time to read through the entries and post my vote to Moonbat. But I never had the time to come up with a short list to post. So, sorry to all those I would have mentioned.

Congrats Cat's! Well done.

I tried to do an original story with no spoof of anything existing, although it didn't seem to go over well. Oh well, I guess blowing up a planet just because your ex is there is not so much funny as demented

As I voted for you Cat, can we have something with RAY GUNS in for next month? Or spaceships? But I really want RAY GUNS, but I can live with spaceships.

No pressure!

Thank you, Cul! Thanks so much, WinterLight! Thanks johnnyjet! Thank you, TJ! And thank you ratsy! These challenges are incredibly difficult to win, so while I'm having my moment in the sun, I am going to say 'Thank you!' directly to each person kind enough to send congratulations, instead of doing a mass, one-size-fits-all thank-you! :)

And Bowler1, I think it's possible to squeeze a Ray Gun into virtually any challenge! I'm waiting to hear back on my genre/theme suggestions, but they are a bit..different. I still hope it'll work out that you'll find a way to utilize your cherished Ray Guns! :)

I hope so too CC buddy, or I'll have found a new use (not really a new use, more like a new target) for my RAY GUNS.

Luiglin and Juliana, what can I say, I like the way you both think, especially Juliana. Have a RAY GUN each, I'm sure you'll make good use of 'em. Right then, I'm off in search of Hex as the clock is ticking on months theme - there's a free RAY GUN for whoever dobs her in.

You're welcome, David! Your story was really good! There are a bunch of writing challenges at the site in April. :)

Oy, I am getting cold feet, as we get closer to the reveal. I'm sure we'll all be discussing things come Wednesday morning. Please be kind! :)

The Dark Lord may take you up on that offer.

RAY GUNS are not to be misused by the DARK LORD (and if you believe that, I have a bridge for sale too), just in case the DARK LORD has some naughty world domination plans, and stuff.

Cold feet are no good for running away from pitchforks -- but the torches may remedy that.

TDZ, you need to tool up and move out of the middle ages. May I recommend a RAY GUN set on low beam instead of pitchforks and torches (although, I do like a nice mindless mob charging about the place, it's such fun!). All those flames have got to be a health and safety hazard, and I'm talking about the user here, not CC's feet.

I really like Space Opera so was really, really pleased to see the category; that is until I tried to write some in 75 words??!! I mean, that just didn't seem likely. But what really stymied me was "humor." As I posted earlier I wrote my story on the "trot" as it were. And later when I came back to look at it I wasn't sure it was even a story. It would be best categorized a joke. Then I noted that there were some irregularities with my punctuation. All in all I turned out far less pleased with my story in the end, then I was in the beginning.

----

On the other hand I really liked the idea of "Whim" being a catlike creature, and a "purr" being a weapon. Cats do tend to disarm me terribly when the cuddle and purr. Even a dog person like myself falls victim to that. :sneaky::)

Gnah, have just gotten back and realised I missed the vote:( sorry all. Thanks to Moonbat and Telford for the mentions! Well done CC! :D
