Sad news: Terry Pratchett dies, age 66.

So very sad. Since 2007 I have been (selfishly) dreading this day.

Very very sad news indeed!

Yet as another said also good news; good for (having seen others suffer with the disease) at least he got to die peacefully and with a degree of his mind and dignity left. At 66 he could have gone on for many more years in a hellish suffering most would not wish upon their enemies - and not just him but his family as well. So a part of me is glad that he did not have to live the end of his life suffering.

Also I kinda think I'll be reading one of his books this evening.

Sad news. Terry's name is legendary. RIP Terry. You will be missed

:( saw the twitter ending screenshotted in the news articles. Very apt. I am unable to put into words how sad this has made me, one of my very favourite authors. Such an awful disease, but glad he went before it could fully destroy him. He will be missed so very much by so very many people.

Oook

I don't tend to be much for remembering quotes, but this one from I Shall Wear Midnight always stuck with me, and seems appropriate now when I can't seem to find my own words to express how I feel:

She heard him mutter, 'Can you take away this grief?'

'I'm sorry,' she replied. 'Everyone asks me. And I would not do so even if I knew how. It belongs to you. Only time and tears take away grief; that is what they are for.'

I'm going to use the weekend to re-read and to celebrate. I think I will start with 'Thud', I have only read it once, but I think of all his books it most speaks to the Human, the Humanist and on a more fundamental level the father in me.

From my earliest readings of the Colour of Magic, I always wanted something made of Sapient Pearwood - alas, this will never happen, but I found this tonight and it warms my heart that others loved the Luggage as much as I did

To be scrupulously fair, the creators of such a wonderful confection are
