Harnessing the community

What would be really neat would be if we had some sort of iconic symbol to place on our blogs that indicate to other members that you are willing to share the blog if they want to use it as a guest blog on their blog with a link back to your blog. That might encourage people to read more of your blogs for interesting things to share.

In a way it could create one of those circles that used to be so popular.

I also had thought it would be handy if people who do reviews on goodreads were willing to share as a guest blog review.
This would be handy because when you finish your review on goodreads there is a place you can snag the html for that purpose and if you put that in a page you could email it to anyone wanting to have you a guest blog review. If they know where to go in their blog they can drop that in and it has links to your goodread page and your other reviews.

Tinkerdan, I'm a mod [last active one, it seems] on the Indie Book Club on Goodreads, and sometimes double-shot posts (such as world-building) by posting on my own blog, as well as there.

Not sure exactly what you are asking::

Done! :)

Hmmm... why does my profile picture show up instead of my author picture if I want to post something?
:: But if you have a author page or any other number of pages and a regular user account you have to be sure you are using facebook as whatever page you want to have show up in that icon when you post.

It might be that you have not switched to the author page first so you are still working from the page as your regular profile.
Does that make sense?

Okay I think I understand what you are saying::

::What I had in mind was asking people to email the html code to me to put on my blogger post as a guest blog review post.
Or I suppose that I could open the blog up for people to post into though I'm not sure about that just yet.

I pull reviews from goodreads to place on the blogger account and wouldn't mind blogging other peoples reviews with their permission and just figured having the html emailed to me would make it quick and dirty as they say.

Of course I have similar issues to others in lack of visibility at the moment so maybe people don't want to share for something like that.

But, someone (maybe you, not sure?) tagged me in a tweet a couple of days ago, which meant I was able to pick it up and retweet it which meant a couple of the others picked it up and retweeted it which meant, eventually, it probably hit a thousand feeds.... It's surprising how far little things go. And it lifted me, so far from useless. :)

But, again, this thread shouldn't be about shaming or forcing, but instead about what can we do to be a strong, supportive community to everyone. For you, that support might be guidance in what does help so that when you're in the position to launch, you have everything you need for it. Or building a twitter following for you - have you posted on the twitter thread who you are?

(on that note, in two weeks time I'm going to be talking about blogging on my blog, which might be useful? If so, steal away at it. That's why I'm writing them, in the hope they'll be useful.)

I believe that was me, yes. I can do that stuff easy enough, so if just a simple tweet helps, then I'm more than happy to, and once I hipefully get a better online presence I can then do more.

Absolutely that's what would help me, a guidance thread about what, how and where for the non-writing side of the business. I wasn't aware there was a twitter thread  *quickly shuffles off to find it*

I'll be sure to take a look at your blog then:)

Do you have the link to your blog, Tinker? Is it open to others to view? I do like a bit of blog surfing of an evening.

Oh! One other thing someone just reminded me about that's really useful for authors and anyone can do - ordering the books from your local library. I don't know how that works with sp works - but will find out when I have a go - but for anyone trad published it helps their visibility.

Yes this can work::

:: They weren't able to take the one I had in my hand; but were gracious enough to show me how to go about requesting that they purchase a copy for the library from Exlibris.

Can they be ordered by eBook? That's all mine is for now. An eBook. They won't be able to take it home, but they can read it at the library?

Not sure if I can show my face in our local library. There might be a small matter of an unreturned book (or two) from a few years ago when the children were young.
LOL!:ROFLMAO:

Liked your Facebook Susan. Stephan, I think I have to have a Wordpress account in order to Follow you.

Actually some libraries are doing this. My local library will allow you to borrow an ebook.
