DISCUSSION -- April 2015 300-word Writing Challenge (#17)

Well, with me, there's been so much going on lately I can't think straight right now, hehe.

There's the challenges to work on-now that I understand metafiction, should have figured there-and I have my AI story, another two stories...just so much.

Don't worry -- those words will still be there on the 10th. Maybe.

A few months ago I did the same, then dropped my ipad. By the time it was repaired I had missed the deadline. Make sure you back up those 299 words, Tywin!

Well, I wrote them on my work computer (which currently blocks the chrons), so I emailed them to myself. So, if nothing else I have the backed up version in my email. Now I just have to remember to post it when the time comes.

Nice picture @Phyrebrat - it oddly reminds me of Top Gear, as they frequently seemed to 'accidentally' stumble upon disused airfields, airframes etc in the middle of the countryside (and once in the Arctic) when on their foreign jolly boys trips. Will give this a little thought and whence inspiration springs!

I've already got one written. It's a bit... wierd, but I think I'll end up using it. I may need to show it to a moderator first. Great picture, Phrebrat! It gave me an instant idea. Can't wait to see what inspiration others've taken from it.

Not just the great bear. It's lots of us. The rules say:

Moderators for the Challenge are: chrispenycate, Culhwch, HareBrain, Hex, nixie, pyan, Teresa Edgerton, TheDustyZebra, The Judge and Ursa major. If you direct your questions to any other moderator there may be a delay in receiving an answer.

Though I wouldn't advise directing any queries to me for the next couple of weeks because I'm going on holiday to the Land Beyond The Internet! Yey!

A great picture for the challenge. I think it has a lot of good stories in it. I can't really see past the initial thought that jumped into my head, so it will be good to see what everyone else comes up with.

I haven't gotten my head around writing a story in 75 words yet, so I have to stick with these big ones!

You may find that 75 is actually easier than 300. The 300 gives you enough room that it begins to feel more like a normal story, and before you know it, you have a lovely 600-word story. :D

Yes. I know the feeling. :D I'm currently 5000 words in to a new novel based on one of my past 300-challenge entries and I know @Jo Zebedee is also writing something based on a 300-challenge. Dangerous beasties, these challenges!!

I had the germ of an idea and went with it, not really sure how it was going to go or whether it was going to work.

Just come to the end and it is just over 300 words. Well I say just over, I mean just over by the better part of 700 words. And there is a vital bit of information missing. So this is short story territory. It could quite easily be developed into something bigger, but can I even begin to truncate it?

Can someone rap Phyrebrat's fingers please, for daring to provide a picture that inspired me a lot more than I initially thought it would. ;)

Seriously though cheers PB!

<ow> okay, thanks Perp, I shan't be voguing for a while now ;)

While I nurse my hands, and nose-type like a pecker-bird, I should say, I have been hoisted by my own petard... I won't be entering the 300 this time. In fact the 75 challenge is also turning up nothing for me. What a barren month.

Anyway, just think yourself lucky I didn't offer the other pic I have: a zombie horde chasing a private detective - in a Boris Vallejo-esque space scene - whilst two lovers embrace in the background and clown rides a radiator. Now that would be a stimulus!*

Story is all polished up and triple-counted and burning a hole in my pocket. Well, my hard drive, anyway. :D

Really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with; I always love all the different interpretations of the 300 images!
