Discussion -- May 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

Cheers Victoria and here was me trying to dig deeper into the pun abyss. There's got to be a bottom surely?

Can someone who is good with anagrams, tell me if 'Olun Gambrel' is a reference I should be getting? So far I have Olga Lumbern but that doesn't mean anything to me either. :)
seriously creepy image there.

*Glares at Robert* Someone beat me to the punch on Greek, did they?

Hmm...I might have to scrap any mythology ideas completely then...I think anything else I would do would be tenth fiddle...

From my perspective, that's a good thing -- I love your story.

I don't have a clue about any literary allusions, and googling "stories woman fantasy artists" didn't provide any clues.

Of course, I might be on the wrong track altogether.

By the way, am I right in thinking the walking stick is a clue... Sari is no longer a young girl?

Karn can't answer that question. The story must explain itself until the voting is done. The rest of us can speculate, but he's not supposed to confirm or deny any of our guesses.

I thought the walking stick simply meant that she was expecting a long journey on foot. I had visions of Hobbits starting out for Bree.

Well, I made the post disappear almost as soon as you posted it, so you're off the hook this time. Next time you do it (if there is a next time, and I hope not) you'll be in the kitchen peeling potatoes.

I like mashed potatoes with the skins on.

But regardless of your culinary preferences, to peel enough potatoes to feed everyone in the Chrons mess hall would be a wearisome task.

Especially if the mods are feeling mean and we expect you to do it with a butter knife. Keep that in mind, Private Maeshalanadae.

Sorry. No more questions.

I do like the various ways in which people interpret the stories. :) I think this is reflected in the wide spread of votes in the polls.

Edited to add: I'm sorry that I caused some awkwardness, Karn.

I'm in. Make of it what you will.
Karn, since no one else has bitten, I think your new avatar is, um, interesting. And no, I won't ask.

Why, thank you very much guys. Praise from Caesar and all that.

Telford's story reminds me of a SF novel by IIRC Alaistar Reynolds. One of the wide, wide, open Science Fantasy things where the travel between the stars was done by wormholes and entered and exited by trains. In fact the early lines made me wonder if he was quoting it, but no.

Really good stories coming in...yours is terrific, Juliana. Really interesting structure, and a compelling read.
