DISCUSSION -- June 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

Unless we get a rush of last minute voters (and maybe even if we do) it looks like there's going to be a tie :)

There are a few of us who tend to cast our votes towards the end of the time limit (the poll closes at 00:00 GMT, which is 01:00 BST), but a tie is certainly possible.

As an aside, I can just imagine a headline in a red top (UK tabloid) should a certain event occur in Athens next Sunday:

Tsipras in Unexpected Tie Shock

(I'll leave you to work out why this may not be as unlikely as it might at first appear....)

My shortlist:
Michael Coorlim
Luiglin
Kerrybuchanan

And my vote went to HareBrain - I loved the Faust riff immensely.

For my shortlist I have-

A. Fare Wells, with From the West
Farntfar's Early Smirk
Ratsy's with Dawn to Dusk, and
Xenosia's entry, Caffeine Fantasy Journey.

As soon as I read the story that eventually got my vote, which was one of the early entries, I thought it would be hard to beat. So Fantasy Guest, by Ashleyne B. Watts, managed to hold off any challengers, of which there are many.

Managed to vote!

In the brief time I had to choose, Michael Coorlim's story stood out,so I voted for that.

Thanks for any mentions I got and many thanks to Stillearning for the vote!

Howdy,
A big THANK YOU to those that still do reviews of all the stories, I don't know how you manage to do it.

I would like to thank Moonbat, Telford, Cascade, Johnnyjet, Holland, Venusian Broon, Bowler 1, Kerrybuchanan, The Dusty Zebra, Grimward, for mentions, long lists, short lists, and especially Tim for the runner-up listing. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

With a list like that how could I possibly just "like" something? What if I ended up just being "and one other person" that liked something?

Read all the stories and got my vote in for Hare Brain, great month all-around, really enjoyed it.

Bob

Thanks for the reviews Victoria and Tim James and thanks for the listing and comments Remedy.

I haven't been involved in these challenges for a while but quickly remembered why I enjoyed them so much. I look forward to next month's challenge already!

Many great entries but my vote went to holland - really enjoyed the premise, especially the slow build up to the reveal of the premise at the end.

Receiving a vote in these 75 worders creates more a euphoria in me that chocolate and ice-cream could never achieve. That being said, thanks for the euphoria, Willwallice.

I'd also like to thank you, TitaniumTI, for the listing.

As always, a massive thanks to Victoria and Tim for your reviews.

My shortlist:

God’s Will by telford

No Time Left for You by willwallice

Bittersweet by Kerrybuchanan

From the West by A. Fare Wells

The Ambassadors by Victoria Silverwolf

A Late Arrival by Karn Meashalanadae

Dawn to Dusk by ratsy

We've Got Mail... by mosaix

I voted for I’LL WAIT VERY HARD by Jo Zebedee

I want to thank all those who kindly mentioned my story in case I missed liking your post. Also kudos to the wonderful reviewers we are lucky to have.

A drive-by voting from me, I'm afraid, due to unexpected work. No time for a shortlist, but Chrispy's poem is my winner. I imagine that's exactly how I would feel. And I always like his rhyming schemes.

Thanks to Robert and Bob -- two votes on the last day made me very happy! -- and everyone who shortlisted my story.

With things almost over (except for a tiebreaker), I'd just like to say thanks to those who mentioned my story, and especially big thanks to Juliana for the vote and Littlestar for the vote and kind words. Thank you both muchly!

Kerry, I don't know if we can get the pink taffeta away from Jo, since she's awfully close and might be wanting it herself! I guess we need to go shopping for a new bridesmaid's dress. And smelling salts. Teresa might have some of those -- they seem like something that might be hanging around in her world. :D

Heh, Kerry is in the land of no internet and is being kept up to date by me via text. I might threaten a dance off if it stays close, just for the craic of it. :D

thanks teresa for the mention! it really made my day. :)
my vote. Bob senior's tale made me laugh. i don't do that a lot, so in my eyes it deserved the vote.
springs, as i have said, your entry was uber amazing. it made me cry. but somehow today laughter beat tears, for me.
the other stories under consideration were luigin's, grimwalds, chrispy's, mr orange's, alchemists, remedy's, marmalades, ursa's, crystal's, harebrain's, telfords, kerry's and karns.. as well as springs of course..

and so, to finish, my longfellows serenade: And from the sky, serene and far,
A voice fell, like a falling star,
Excelsior!

I'm back with my choices:

There was so much imagination and originality in all the entries this month, and I did struggle to come up with something (my first idea would have probably seen me ostracised from Chrons); I was worried that with my recent subject matter in my own short stories, and this 75er, I'd get a rep for being a misogynist (I'm really not, prommmmmise), so I was so pleased and surprised to get two votes and a number of shortlistings!

Thanks to

Victoria and Tim for the reviews

Alc, Johnnyjet for the votes!

and Parson, Cascade & TDZ for the shortlists or mentions :)

My favourites
Telford - for such an original idea and a kicker last line.
Robert Mackay - I'm a huge Beckett fan. You know I was cautioned against using 'In the Style of Beckett' when I won ;)
Chrispenycate - Loved the meter and the sentiment.
Kerrybuchanan - I love me some bittersweet.
Tim James - for Smart Alec-ry
Jo Zebedee - And I thought you were such a nice girl!
johnnyjet - Disaster heaven.
ratsy - The image of people being sucked up all around is arresting, but then being the only one left..?

Runners Up
LittleStar - Such a sad tale.
Grimward - for the sense of epic and tone.
holland - For nerdy science concept that made me think of astronomical bodies in a way that'd never occurred to me before.
Victoria Silverwolf - for a beautiful sentiment
TDZ - For the belly laugh and chattery dialogue

Finalists
Crystal Haven - I have a thing for monster plants and the old Tales from the Darkside-esque tradition
Michael Coorlim - very witty and smart.

Gave it to Crystal Haven - something about the resigned-ness of the voice as well as the idea just really appealed.
