I'm back with my choices:
There was so much imagination and originality in all the entries this month, and I did struggle to come up with something (my first idea would have probably seen me ostracised from Chrons); I was worried that with my recent subject matter in my own short stories, and this 75er, I'd get a rep for being a misogynist (I'm really not, prommmmmise), so I was so pleased and surprised to get two votes and a number of shortlistings!
Thanks to
Victoria and
Tim for the reviews
Alc,
Johnnyjet for the votes!
and
Parson,
Cascade &
TDZ for the shortlists or mentions
My favourites
Telford - for such an original idea and a kicker last line.
Robert Mackay - I'm a huge Beckett fan. You know I was cautioned against using 'In the Style of Beckett' when I won
Chrispenycate - Loved the meter and the sentiment.
Kerrybuchanan - I love me some bittersweet.
Tim James - for Smart Alec-ry
Jo Zebedee - And I thought you were such a nice girl!
johnnyjet - Disaster heaven.
ratsy - The image of people being sucked up all around is arresting, but then being the only one left..?
Runners Up
LittleStar - Such a sad tale.
Grimward - for the sense of epic and tone.
holland - For nerdy science concept that made me think of astronomical bodies in a way that'd never occurred to me before.
Victoria Silverwolf - for a beautiful sentiment
TDZ - For the belly laugh and chattery dialogue
Finalists
Crystal Haven - I have a thing for monster plants and the old
Tales from the Darkside-esque tradition
Michael Coorlim - very witty and smart.
Gave it to
Crystal Haven - something about the resigned-ness of the voice as well as the idea just really appealed.
