DISCUSSION -- July 2015 300-word Writing Challenge (#18)

Thank you JoanDrake, you're very kind and I'm so glad you enjoy them, but Victoria is the real hero. I've only written reviews for the last two 300-word challenges. Victoria and Tim (Perpsicle) inspired me to have a go and Victoria manages to do every 75-worder as well!

I don't think we'd have nearly the same number of entries without VS :)

A. Fare Wells -- By making use of a carefully selected tone of voice and vocabulary, the author creates a very complex and believable character. I felt as if I were studying the psychology of someone undergoing a profound experience.

Sancho -- The author creates a complex future inhabited by persons with emotions to which we can all relate. This story made me experience the inner lives of these characters.
Thanks so much for the positive comments

And managing to start clawing back some free time I'm slipping in with my entry. It's not what I hoped, I was going to have something a little more garnd, but thise seemed more apt somehow.

Starbeast -- This lighthearted tribute to modern popular culture blends aspects that would seem difficult to mix, and does it seamlessly. Through it I was able to appreciate something with which I was not at all familiar.

Tim James -- In the tradition of the quiet catastrophe, this story convinces the reader by not raising its voice. I felt as if I had witnessed cataclysmic events before my very eyes.

The last day and we look to be up in entries over last time!

I'm sure we will have a few last-minute posters too

TheDustyZebra -- Here the author creates a mythic fable of the modern world, using ancient themes. While reading this I was able to feel both shame for the human species and a touch of hope that we can rise above our flaws.

Moonbat -- Appropriately, this story makes use of free-form language, balancing improvisation with carefully controlled nuances. I was able to fully experience the triumph and tragedy of the transhuman.

Well, doesn't look as if I'm going to manage to get this three-hundred done.

But it's really good to see her Honour contributing again.

The Judge -- The remarkably delicate and artistic style of this story is perfect for its theme of art and the way in which it reflects the emotions of the creator. Through these precisely crafted words I was able to share the feelings of a truly gifted artist.

Fitzchiv -- By describing strange, impossible events in a style making use of realistic detail, the author has achieved a high level of surrealism. Through the writer's eyes I witnessed another reality, one with hints of allegory regarding our own.

Ursa major -- This moving story of choices and consequences is made more poignant by its calm style. I was able to share the stoic acceptance of those who have lost all hope.

Once more unto the breach. Favorites: Ash, TT, Cascade, Will, Victoria, Alice, Rob Mackay, Kerry, Mr O, JJ, the Beast, Dusty.
Clear winners: Juliana, Phyrebrat and (of course charging in at the end, again) the Judge. Fantastic entries from everyone. Well done.

Hang on a mo. A vote, for little old me? Thanks Twisty. Yeah, I'm giving everyone short names today.
