The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew

Over here in Southeast Asia, I grew up reading Nancy Drew! Spent the long school holidays curled up in a corner, deaf to world, while I sped my way through the books between age 8 - 14.

And since someone mentioned The Famous Five - I read those too. Those and a whole bunch of Enid Blyton books. They were childhood staples.

Holy cow did I LOVE the Hardy Boys growing up. They really turned me on to reading. When I was a kid I picked one up at a bookshop and was hooked (it's this one: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1130068.Deathgame) on that 80s/90s series. I think I read 6 of them in a single day once. My library had almost all of them.

I did read a handful of Nancy Drew books and some of the "super mysteries" where they both solved crimes together (those were fun: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/557147.The_Last_Resort), but never took to Nancy like the Hardy Boys. Then again, I was the oldest of 4 boys so solving crimes with your brother was in my wheelhouse.

I too recall reading the Hardy Boys mysteries though i never got too engrossed in the series. They seemed very much like Scooby Doo to me at my young age and i had not yet gain an appreciation for reading. I did not read Nancy Drew because those were for girls of course :)
