Just for the record, honey is not Bee vomit. It is stored in a specialised organ called a Honey Stomach and is never mixed with the bee's own digestive juices in its standard stomach. There is a form of non-return valve between the two stomachs, which means that, if required, a bee can take some of the nectar for its own use but the contents of the honey stomach are never mixed with the stomach that digests and provides nourishment for the bee. The nectar used to produce honey is untainted, undigested and regurgitated (vomit being the forceful and involunatry expulsion of stomach contents). I have learned all this from my brother who is a beekeeper.

Well done Jo for getting a nice, positive note.

All publishers are scared of missing the next JK Rowling.

A writer friend of mine on the old Asimov's forum pondered how many manuscripts with Boy Wizard main characters were submitted to publishers after the success of Harry Potter. The problem, she said, is that it's easy to spot the Last Big Thing, and much harder to spot the Next Big Thing.

Well, I had to nudge on mine because I got an offer on the mss which I'm musing over, and I got my kick-out just now. But it was very nice:

"I want you to know that passing on it was not an easy decision. Our readers were very impressed with your work."

So that was nice, and now I have to off and think about what's on the table to me from various directions. :)

Sends hugs and cake.

Hm... there's a definite buzz around here... for the record...

I'm not sure whether to congratulate or commiserate Jo since she was possibly only rejected since she had an offer on the table. My brain hasn't been this broken since I had to explain taxes to my 3 year old.

Once again, I can't offer cake since we don't keep it in the house, but I can always send e-hugs instead. Or coffee. I always have coffee.

So Mouse is still in the running. Hmm. Interesting. And Alc, and Chopper and Kerry and ... Grrr. One of the remaining Chrons has to make it through. Surely there aren't better writers out there? Toes and fingers crossed for all of you.

Mouse isn't on the Chrons anymore, so I don't think we'll hear.

It's a shame :(
