FIX!!!!!!

Congratulations Ratsy on the fine win, and well done JohnnyJet, two excellent stories :)

My story was Carillons a musique, Thank you to those who mentioned or shortlisted :)

A great host and some fine stories... Bring on November! :D

Congratulations, Ratsy!

Apologies to everyone. First for not entering and second for not voting. Just got too many things on my mind at the moment. I'll try and do better next time.

Here is the list of authors for the stories.

Great work everyone. We very unsuccessfully guessed anyone, so that means we are great at hiding our identities. I don't find that I try to hide who I am when I write my stories. I have done a lot of love for or from someone dead in my challenge stories. Someone guessed me right too! I think it was Johnny? (Ill look back to see)

Sorry if the list is crooked. It wouldn't copy and paste properly (it looks fine before I hit post!!!:devilish:) and I'm in a bit of a rush. My little city has a Words in the Park event at the library where local authors and book peeps are hanging out, so I want to crash the party. I can say 'Oh you have an Writer's Guild award of excellence? How nice...but do you have an anonymous 100 word challenge victory? What? No I didn't cheat!!! Just because I was the host!! This is not an outrage, sir. Calm down!'

And thanks to Ash for the great theme, and to Dusty for letting me use her as the Red Herring. Thanks Dusty ;)

What an exciting competition! Neck and neck until the end! A close race, ratsy! You beat me by just one point. But it was a well-deserved win. Congratulations!

Thanks for all the votes and mentions, everyone, and all the nice comments. Very much appreciated.

By the way, did anyone know where the title of my little tale came from?

I need a distraction after the pain of the Rugby.

"My story was Only YOU Can Save Mankind."
It was actually a puzzle - I was hoping (in vain, as it turned out) that someone would be sufficiently intrigued at the line about Vigenere Square to Google it, and find that it isn't a town square in the Dordogne, but an encryption cipher.

The other key line is "you must look to the first of our line to find the key to our obsessions" -from that, you might have been able to decipher the code hidden in the story.

The hidden message?

Look at the first letters of each line; W B E H Y B W B R K. By cross-referencing each letter with the keyword "Obsessions" in the square above, you'll get a secret message revealing the identity of the author...

Can YOU Save Mankind?

When the aliens came retaliation required Earth’s brightest minds.

Backdoor recruitment operations were headed by a puzzle, published online.

Earth’s mission: to identify and neutralise the mastermind behind the invasion.

Have you got what it takes to solve it?

You must look to the first of our line to find the key to our obsessions.

Be prepared to engage fully, from the alpha to the beta, from the vertical to the horizontal.

Wield intelligence as your sword.

Be prepared to trespass on known regulations.

Rendezvous at Vigenère Square to receive further instructions.

Keep your identity a secret!

Clearly I have more work to do to make cryptoanalysts of you all.

Wow, that's a tremendous amount of trouble to go to.

Maybe I could win the Turing award for Outstanding Contribution to the War Effort Story.

Oh, by the way, congratulations @ratsy. I wasn't really outraged. Well, not much. Mr Outrage was, though. It doesn't take much for him and his mates to crack the AK-47s out. I daresay he'll be back.

And congratulations @johnnyjet too; I had your back.

I wish I could've had time to read all these stories! Busy busy month for me, so I do apologize. The 2 top dogs deserved going to the tie-break. Congrats host! And a big thank you for the mentions peeps.
