Discussion thread -- September 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

Genuinely didn't think I'd manage one this month. It wasn't the fault of the theme or genre (good choices, @Cascade), just tiredness and apathy on my part. Anyway, I'm in. It's only to prevent the shame of breaking a so far perfect record of challenges (except for the 300 worder last year when my ipad broke with the story on it), but I've done it. Something. Hopefully vaguely relevant!

Assuming those who enter this contest can also vote (not for themselves, obviously, that's just silly) I'm going to have a really hard time choosing. This challenge is a great way to learn new ways to play with format and story structure.

Of course you can vote - indeed, we shout nasty things at you (and occasionally loose the Bowler) if you fail to. Indeed, you can vote without even having participated in the writing side (though it's not as much fun). But be warned, there is a determined 'leave it to the last minute' contingent, so while prepaing in advance is good, it doesn't remove the pressure when it comes round.

Yes, squuezing an idea into that space does require certain skills, doesn't it (and they're not wasted - well, almost anything you learn in writing is useful for something).

Hi Saharren. The voting is open to anyone, whether they wrote a story or not. And you are correct, you cannot vote for yourself.

It is always tough to choose a winner, and lots of us break the entries into lists of long-lists, favorites, short-lists, or mentions...something to say which stories we also liked a lot, because it is hard to get a vote with 40-50 entries a month. For some of us, getting a mention as a short-list is almost as good as a vote!

Ahh but the Mods.... they can tell....

The mods are watching, always watching...

Only thirty-five submitted, and tomorrow the last day? My little list suggests that:- alchemist, Bob Senior, Cascade, Culwch, HareBrain, Hex, Moonbat, Mosaix, TheDustyHebra, TwistedLemon and Ursa Major would be good ones to chivvy, and even A. Fare Wells, BigJ and Sancho might bear fruit. Come now, holidays are terminated and term-time hollers. Doesn't do any good having vigilant mods if half the missing regulars are mods (even off their rockers) does it?

Item: Phyrebrat: This complex, fast-moving account of crime and punishment leads the reader to wonder who shall watch the watchmen.

Item: StilLearning: The author uses mythic fantasy to cast an ironic eye on human aspirations.

Item: Grimward: Multiple levels of apocalypse come together in this awe-inspiring saga.

Item: Culhwch: One moment of emotion is followed by an extended time of regret in this powerful fable.

Culhwch: I think you sent us a contender. But I'm not sure I buy the premise of a worm devouring a worm.
