DISCUSSION -- October 2015 300-word Writing Challenge (#19)

Wow! The picture certainly got the creative juices flowing! The entries for this challenge were simply stunning. I felt like I was reading my own private anthology. :) The standards were very high and there wasn't one that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Well done you clever lot and a huge congrats to Mosaix. (y) You get a nice virtual cream cake and a sticker from me. :D

Well done Mosaix! And first 300 win you old dog :D

Just got to say thank you for everyone that mentioned my story - in the grand scheme of things I count that as a vote.

But it was an honour to get a vote - and be placed amongst so many other fine and wonderful stories - so many, many thanks to Ursa, alchemist, Glen, LittleStar, Cat's Cradle, holland, DJ Jones and Ensign Shah.

Congrats Mosaix... you got one of my three.

Thanks to all folks who clicked the little radio button next to my moniker. It was rather strange as I thought it was one of my poorest entries. Just shows I shouldn't trust my own taste :)

Congratulations mosaix!

My votes went to Luiglin, Venusian Broon, Culhwch.

Thanks for the votes mosaix, TheDustyZebra, Jo Zebedee, Kerrybuchanan and StilLearning. Very happy indeed to get those, as I am the mentions from Cat's Cradle, Victoria Silverwolf, Starbeast, J D Foster, Mr Orange.

Special mention to Juliana who, in addition to the picture, inspired my story this month…
... I'm not the one who chose 'thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening'!! :D

Congratulations, mosaix! An excellent story!

Unexpectedly, I wasn't able to spend much time on line yesterday evening, so I couldn't prepare a shortlist nor thank everyone as I'd usually do, though I did manage to rush in and vote. So belated storm-driven thanks for the short-listings and mentions Droflet, Cat's Cradle, Juliana, Starbeast, VB, Bowler, johnnyjet, Mr Orange, AFW, farntfar, Phyrebrat and Kerry and a tempest of mega-thanks for the lovely votes Robert, Titanium and TDZ!

In case anyone was wondering about my rather abstruse title, Catullus was a Roman poet, particularly noted for erotic poetry and a lot of obscene stuff. But his poem 101 is a lament for his dead brother, which includes the line (Wikipedia translation) "speak in vain to silent ash" -- I'd already thought of the idea of reusing dead bodies to improve the soil on Mars, so this idea of speaking to the dead brother's ashes resonated with me when I came across it. Only then the story warped from a lament for the brother into the murderer of the brother being glad of his death, hence the "inverse".

Thank you so much for the stealth vote, TJ. I think it's your first for me, is it not, Your Honor? (Unless, of course you made a mistake o_O)

Congratulations mosaix! A well deserved win with a great story :D

And a massive Thankyou to Ursa Major, Drof, Littlestar, johnnyjet and VB for the votes, and everyone else who gave me a mention. This has been my most successful yet, and it was all pretty exciting to know so many of you enjoyed my story (y)

Brilliant, congratulations Mosaix on a fabbo story. It's nice to have picked the winner!

And well done to everyone else on such a bumper batch of belters this month. Thanks to everyone who listed me on their shortlists and runner-up spots - far too many to mention - but special thanks to the splendid Broon Troosers, who gave me a vote :)

Congratulations Mosaix!

Thanks to: mosaix, ratsy, HareBrain, Phyrebrat, Hex, Victoria Silverwolf, DG Jones, and Ensign Shah for the votes and anyone who shortlisted "Baseline". I'm really chuffed with 8 votes, and the lovely comments.

Very well done Mosaix and I liked your entry from the first and why I voted for you - ZzzzaaaapppPPP - and I've had to shoot you too! I posted my effort up just after yours and knew right away I'd been done, it was clearly that good a story for me. So your on my hit list (it's nothing personal, most people are), but for a good reason.

Congratulations, Mosaix, for a well-deserved win for a great story.

And my humble thanks to those who listed my story: Victoria, Starbeast, Dusty & Mr Orange!

Thanks everyone! :) As VB said, my first success in the 300 word challenge.

I'm stunned with the win, mainly because of the typo right in the middle of the story. I noticed the thing 20 minutes after the editing window had shut and thought that it would cost me so many votes that I wouldn't stand a chance. I'd be interested to know if people just didn't see it, saw it and ignored it or saw it and discounted the story altogether.

Anyway, thanks to CC, Victoria, J D Foster, VB, Johnny Jet. A. Fare Wells, HazelRah, Little Star, Phyrebrat and Alc for the mentions / short lists.

And many, many thanks to Cul, U.M., ratsy, T.J., TDZ, Starbeast, Droflet, Bowler, StilLearning, Luiglin, Mr Orange, DG, and Travis Woodward for the votes.

And whilst composing this post I've realised that I didn't thank people who appreciated my story in the October 75 word challenge. I intend to put that right in the next few minutes!
