The challenge is up and awaiting your excellent entries.

Genre: Horror
Theme: The Things You Don't See

Happy writing!(y)

Ashleyne. B. Watts -- There are few experiences that are as simultaneously compelling and unnerving as physical attraction to another person, and this allegorical tale of body horror strikingly conveys that sensation.

Cathbad -- In our relationships with family members we often have a distorted view of how we are perceived by them, as this subtle and carefully characterized chiller demonstrates.

I was about to leave this site.....when I noticed the new challenge was posted. Incredibly, an idea popped into my mind (much like everyone else ahead of me, I'm guessing). I dashed off to the Batmoblie and crashed into a tree. I limped to the Wayne Manor and wrote my tale quickly.

Thank you very much LittleStar

Why did I have to find out about this new challenge theme just before going to bed? Lying in the dark with my imagination working overtime, trying to think of the scariest stuff possible, was not particularly conducive to a good night's sleep!

:) Same thing happens to me, Shyrka, if I happen to see a new challenge theme before bedtime...you just cannot shut down the mind!

Great stories so far, everyone! You're all so talented. And it's wonderful seeing you back in the challenges, Cascade! I missed your stories, CC

Four posts up already - wow!

Nice theme and lots of scope in this one. My initial feeling was the cliché of all horror movies where someone volunteers to go off alone, and we all know what happens to them next! All the Hammer House stuff too, with all the classic vampires etc. Lots of seeds for ideas, so I'll be back!

Im glad you all seem to like the choices. Ive never written a horror story before and noticed it hadn't been up in a year or so, so I thought I'd pick that... And i do seem to recall a certain someone waiting desperaetly for this genre to crop up ;) I had so many themes that I could have taken, I did toy with the Hammer Horror etc. but in the end I thought I might as well make a horror month as creepy as possible right?

Looking forward to seeing what you guys all come up with after my idea is formed and written:)

Great choices, Littlestar!

An idea has already popped into my tiny mind, but entering so early in the month is oddly daunting - so I'll probably sit on it a while, like a big fat mother hen, and enjoy everybody else's efforts. I daresay there will be some good ones this month :)

I had intended to take a bit of time off from the challenges — so much going on, IRL (we're unexpectedly moving across-country in three weeks!) — but I'm weak, and my story is done. Just need it to brew for awhile. Wonderful theme/genre choices, LittleStar! I've never written horror either, so this is very exciting to attempt. CC

as much as i like the theme and genre this month i may have a problem; my plan for the year may already be derailed. i don't think puns will work this month and i was planning on doing a whole year of word-play and puns...

Starbeast -- This tale of paranoia makes fine use of subtle suggestions to evoke a growing sense of fear.

Cascade -- A sudden twist transforms this poetic and romantic prose poem into a terrifying vision.

DG Jones -- The clever format of this mysterious tale conceals a story which is chilling in more ways than one.

Shyrka -- With a delicate touch, the author creates the perfect setting for an unexpected menace.

Vaz -- The author creates an entirely new world in a few words in this dark fantasy.
