May 2016 100 Word Challenge -- Discussion Thread

Somebody once suggested my charts were somewhat useful…

So even if I'm stuck with my guesses as to who wrote what for whom, here's a grid.

Amazing challenge, everyone! What a nice, fun, exciting group of stories! And it's cool to see so many stories receiving votes. My shortlisting was everyone, so I will just list my top three, and my vote:

Lady L: very effective! I was really happy Lady L helped Eddie...I hope he learned a lesson, and starts bringing that paycheck home to his family!
The Seed: beautifully paced. The short sentences really worked well. Very exciting!
Serendipity: loved this! It had terrific atmosphere, and the last line is killer! And it received my vote!

Again, a really good bunch of stories. Well done all, and best of luck in the voting!

As well a being dfficult to chooaw between such good stories, assigning a name to ech is especiay hard: At one point I was two thirds convinced Victoria Silverwolf had written three of them, in a fit of, well, evil :D Here's my best shot...

Thief of Souls: Wruter
Disqualification: Chrispenycate
One Night on Cestus Three : Ratsy
The Purest of Luck: Cathbad
Your call : Vaz
Lady L : Ashleyne B Watts
The Seed: Shyrka
Mistaken Identity: Droflet
Serendipity : Victoria Silverwolf
Tired of tough choices : Johnnyjet
Laugh track on the film strip of the Universe: Luiglin
Winning streak : Mosaix
at least for the casino: Droflet

Thanks! :D I apologise for the terrible spelling in my previous post, I had my daughter explaining the rainforest in one ear, and my nephew explaining Romans to me in the other!

This seems like a decent time to close the poll and reveal the anonymous writers. By the way, I cast my vote for "Lady L" which makes it the winner. Congratulations.

Here are the stories and the authors:

"Thief of Souls" was by Vaz

"Disqualification" was by Cathbad

"The Purest of Luck" was by Ashleyne. B. Watts

"One Night on Cestus Three" was by Droflet

"The Seed" was by Shyrka

"Your Call" was by Luiglin

"Lady L" was by Wruter

"Mistaken Identity" was by ratsy

"Tired of Tough Choices . . . ." was by StilLearning

"Laugh Track on the Film Strip of the Universe" was by johnnyjet

"Winning Streak?" was by chrispenycate

". . . . at Least for the Casino" was by mosaix

hopewrites was the red herring.

"Serendipity" was by Victoria Silverwolf. Since this story was written by the hostess, it has been removed from consideration in the poll, leaving Wruter as the clear winner.

Many congratulations, and think about a theme and genre for the next one.

Congrats @Wruter

I to and froed between Lady L, the noirish humour of One Night on Cestus Three and the sense of purpose an urgency I felt from The Seed, so thanks also Droflet and Shykra.

In saying that, I was super impressed by all the entries, and it really took me a few reads through them all before I started seeing my favs, so well done all.

Congrats, @Wruter !

Congrats Writer!

Thanks for the votes and mentions for Mistaken Identity. No one guessed i wrote it! How 'for two a us'

I had to be away from the computer for several days, so I received one more story. Please take this one into consideration. I will include it in the poll.

…at least for the casino.

"Thank God! I almost lost the lot. That last spin put me back where I began. I can replace the money and no one will ever know. I could've gone to prison. I'll never do it again!"

Go back into the casino.

"What? Who is this?"

Lady luck.

"Really?"

Yes. Trust me. Go back.

"I'm not sure..."

Go back to the roulette table.

"Well..."

Put all the money on number six.

"All the money? Surely not."

Just do it.

"Are you absolutely sure?"

Yes. Just trust me.

"Well... alright..."

Good.

"No! It's come up number seven! Seven!"

Bl**dy hell!

Thanks for your efforts on my behalf, Victoria. Posting my story in the discussion thread was a great idea. :)

I will be away from the computer until June 1st, so you have until then to enter.

I didn't hold out much hope for my story this month but I was slightly miffed that my story had to be included in the discussion thread because the main thread had been locked before Victoria had returned to post any remaining entries.

This seems to be the only instance of a 100 word entry thread being locked. Anyone know the reason?

Congrats to @Wruter!

Apologies for not getting around to voting. I'm a bit swamped by other things at the moment. I wasn't entirely sure how many folks would understand what I was getting at so it's a pleasant surprise to get so many mentions, etc. Also, impressive guessing this month - I was pinpointed twice!
