what's a sci-fi book that you always wanted to be made into a movie?

I robot. Not that horrible Will Smith shambles which was essentially one long scene of him urinating on Isaac Asimov's grave. I know it will never happen since the audience now is so dumb that they think Star Wars is intellectually challenging. I'd like to see a realistic and interesting philosophical story about the evolution of technology. Ideally with no big special effects.

I disagree , the Will Smith film was quite good, well acted and well written . Given the the fact that I Robot is a collection of short stories , which one would you adapt? I would liked to have seen them film the Harlan Ellison I Robot screen play , but that's never happening.

All of them. They were strung together under the guise of an interview about the history of a character. That would work well, to show the way that the technology grew and evolved from the perspective of an expert talking to a layman. It would be a long film, but an interesting one.

Then a tv series format might be a better option here.

Hmmm, that's a very interesting way to approach; I'm now thinking that might be a useful idea when making a film of Clifford Simak's City.

That too might be better served in a television format.

Beat me to it :)

Also, The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers.

I agree it would make a great film. I want the people that did the recent Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downy Jr to do this film.:)

Darwinia by Robert Charles Wilson . It starts out like en edgar Rice Burroughs novel and very rapididly goes into Vernor vince territory . In 1912 Europe disappears and is replaced by an alien ecosystem. This is a truly great book and would make a great film.:)

The Star Beast by Robert Heinlein . It would make a great Disney film.:D

Mine! And a big bucket of cash for the rights please, plus executive producer and script co-writing credits ;)

Failing that, His Dark Materials deserves a proper treatment (although apparently that's now happening for television) and Weaveworld would be great.

i would really like to see a series (5!) of films of the Gap Cycle. spaceships and evil aliens doing Borg like conversions etc etc
