Does the series give proof to some book theories?

Didn't GRRM say that they are not the same?

The show's producer called Benjen "Coldhands" in the behind the episode thing after last week's episode. That doesn't necessarily mean they are the same person in the books, but they are in the show.

ETA: GRRM denying that Benjen is Coldhands literally came from a handwritten note in a copy of the original manuscript. An editor writes something like "Is this Benjen? Does Bran not recognize because his face is covered?". Above that, in red ink and circled, is the word "NO" in GRRM's writing.

But is he even answering that question? Is he just trying to throw off everyone, including his editors? It doesn't even make sense to hide the identity of Coldhands from Bran (and the readers) other than to have another [contrived] mystery to solve.

Fortunately, the show runners don't have time to waste with hiding the identity of Coldhands because it makes no sense for Benjen to hide from Bran and so they just reveal him right off the bat. Cool.

Some characters simply have to be amalgamated in the TV series. Like with Jorah getting grey scale rather than Jon Connington.
In the tv series Coldhands makes a later appearance than in the book and also happens to be Benjen. The important thing is that Bran has a convenient saviour who has some Undead element. In the book the little details seem more important.

SPOILERS!!!!!! Dont click the link if you didnt see the Episode yet this past Sunday.

Needles I totally thought of you, being Arya is your girl. My friend showed me this theory, and by how the show did things I find it to be a very interesting and a good one. However one of the things pointed out I don't remember those details from the book, so I'll definitely be rereading her chapters in the last 2 books to see if I notice it there as well.

This fan theory about Arya Stark and the Waif will blow your mind!

Just quick before I start on Arya, I figured it all along but can we now assume that the Hound is indeed alive? !!!

As to Arya, she has always been, is, and will always be my girl!! And just to get it straight right now: She will not die!! At least not in so pointless a way. If GRRM takes her life in the end, for a purpose, which I do believe all of the deaths have served a greater purpose, I will accept and survive it. But there is no point in following her so far, through so much, just to kill her off cause the waif doesn't like her.

As to the Fight Club theory: entertaining? yes. But no, I don't buy it. Yet I will say it matches some points of my theory. In the flashes of "coming up on" GOT we see the waif. If Arya were dead, what further use do we have for the waif to continue to be a part of the show? None I can see. I do however think the waif may be Arya's first true gift to the MFG. A life in return for the life she did not take. This may allow her to legitimately wear the face of the waif.

Thoughts?

Quentin died for a purpose? Guess he was just fodder to begin with

You said it. Quentin had no real part to begin. Always felt like an unneeded sideline to the story to me, just a way to show that Doran had not simply been sitting doing nothing.

The main selling point of the theory to me was how nobody seems to pay any mind to them when in public and battling/training "to learn her lesson".

I agree she definitely has a purpose! I always saw her deff leaving Bravos and returning back to Westeros she deserve that much and to have a much more epic send off if sheis going to eventually be killed off. Or else like you said what was the point of it all?!

Also something is up with her being able to run with those kind of wounds like they show in the preview for this wk end. There is the other theory that it wasn't even her but Jaquen himself ( she did put him on her list back when they met when she got mad at him). But from the books I always thought they could only wear the faces of the dead so if that is the case, where did he get her face to trick the waif? That is where the show kind of changes things up vs the book because when Arya stole a face to knock off someone from her list she came back to find who she thought was Jaquen and then the face was removed and we saw her face on the person yet she herself wasn't dead. So apparently you can take the face of a live person on the show?
Oh and shadow back ground image of what looked like Syrio behind the waif, so what is going on with that? Is it him omg I hope so even if it also means its Jaquen ( with people see saying they are the same person) it would be so awesome to see him show up as Syrio and Aryas reaction! I'm super excited for this wk end, between previews and the episodes title I feel there will be a lot with her in the episode :)

With the latest in the Arya storyline it seems to me that the simple theories are more appropriate for Game of Thrones after all. People are coming out with all sorts of fun theories but then it turns out simple. So far at least.

Following the latest episode (Battle of the Bastards), I've been thinking about how the North story line is going to be resolved in the books. I guess the broad strokes are going to be the same (in that it will all culminate in a battle for Winterfell) but so many of the players will be different.

I'm wondering if Rickon will take the role of Sansa in the show, as the Stark that the other houses rally behind. I'm assuming Sansa is out of this storyline in the books, but maybe Littlefinger will march north with the armies of the Vale? It's been so long since I read aDwD that I can't remember how that was heading...

Jon being resurrected is a given. But in the books, Stannis may still be alive, Shireen is still alive (but I guess soon to be sacrificed - to resurrect Jon maybe?), Mance is alive and likely in Winterfell, Theon and Asha are both in the nieghbourhood and not on the far side of Essos. Have I forgotten anyone?

I'm really interested to see how this all turns out in the book. I think it's definitely going to be a lot different.

Theon and Asha are prisoners of Stannis. Theon is in chains if I remember correctly. Waymer Manderly had his throat cut. Mance, according to the letter by Ramsay to Jon is held captive.

Shireen is alive bit likely to die by fire as confirmed by Martin.

Who knows about Rickon. You may be right on that one.

Sansa is still in the south. Jaime's last scene is him heading off with Brienne to meet her.

Still not 100% sure that Ned isn't the father is it? But I agree it seems unlikely.

Hmmm... Once I might have fancied the elopement of Rhaegar and Lyanna and that they had married in secret...but it seemed too romantic for Mr Martin. And the thought of liking the idea that it was the Mad King Aerys who fathered her baby scared me of myself. Have I gone mad, too?

I couldn't quite hear what Lyanna had whispered to Ned before she revealed that she had a baby (Jon Sand or Snow whatevs) whom Ned must protect. Did she really say that Rhaegar was the father of her baby? If so, Jon has the better claim to the Iron Throne than Dany...right?

(I confessed that I watched the season finale while at work...and shamelessly I was left gaping at the screen with my mouth open. I...I just couldn't go on. I hadn't finished my vouching work yesterday.)

No she said to call him Jon.
It was presented as if Ned was her lover.

Thanks Judderman for clearing that out. I no longer have the time to watch the season again... I'm way past my deadline and paperworks just piled up for the time that I was away in the boondocks.
