Discussion thread -- August 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

New weird huh? I learn something new everyday. Well, I have some writing to do, and I can't procrastinate too much but I will get it written.

Rhyming these reviews, eh Victoria? Right on. :)

Well that definition on Wikipedia left me more confused....

I got as far as
"a general consensus uses the term" to describe fictions that "subvert cliches of the fantastic in order to put them to discomfiting, rather than consoling ends".
and decided it was something I could work with.

Awesome challenge Chris! Looking forward to reading what we come up with here.

I had two Mr Benevolent tales, one light one dark. The latter won. Hopefully it matches the genre.

As a massive fan of China Mieville, the genre choice for this month is right up my alley full of cactus people and cockroach women.

I'm also lucky enough to have read some China Mieville so I have at least a vague idea of the genre.

I've never heard of the genre before today. Anybody know of any common (or uncommon) examples I could check up on?

I still don't know what I'm doing for mine. Trying to pick a cliche I can pick on.

Well I had no clue what I was doing with this genre, it had me stumped. And benevolent I found tough to find conflict and story in, too.
They aren't called challenges for nothing though, right?

I know im in early for someone who didnt have a clue, but i got the idea and went for it, for good or ill. I don't know if I got the genre right, or theme for that matter, but I actually had fun attempting to figure them out.
So good choices, Chrispy (y)

Now to read the other entries

I have to admit I always enjoy the challenges with specific themes, whatever they are. It forces me to think outside of my standard, comfortable sci-fi/fantasy tropes and learn about whole new genres I've never heard of.

That said, I missed Chrispy's last one, so maybe that's why. ;)
