You may not have heard of this one, don't think I've seen it mentioned before. Abendau's Heir, by Jo Zebedee
Yes I thought the first few chapters were its weakest but overall thoroughly enjoyed the book despite its being a bit bleak. Funnily enough I never went on to read any of the other ones; just not so interested in the later periods of history I suppose. After a couple of people in this very thread mentioned Connie Willis, I decided to try one of her books. Just finished Doomsday Book and absolutely loved it, so thank you for the recommendation . It took me a couple of chapters to get into but once I did, it was almost impossible to put down.
Finished Diana Wynne Jones' The Dark Lord of Derkholm and volume 3 of Roger Zelazny's Amber series, Sign of the Unicorn.
I've been doing a back-to-back read-through of the entire Malazan Book of the Fallen series.
I'm re-reading the first books, I read the first 2 many years ago. I find I'm a bit more critical now though I enjoyed book 2. I'm not viewing them as 'keepers' any more sadly.Love the Amber series, but I find that Corwin's adventures interest me far more than his son Merlin's ever did. I'm not sure if it's the character or what, but there just wasn't a consistent thread of interest for him as there was for Corwin IMO.
I'm also reading the Dragonriders of Pern series to my son. I love reading to both my wife and son, and sharing books that I read when I was younger. He's loving Pern so far, and we haven't even reached White Dragon yet.
Thanks! I'm still checking out all the different sections of this site. I can't believe I hadn't known about it before now.Welcome to the chrons forums, Andrew J. Luther - you may especially like our Steven Erikson section ...
