Faves:

Solitary Confinement

My vote was between:

I plumped for Houdunnit.

Robert Mackay
Shyrka

My favorites and vote:

Still working on my guesses...

Hmm there's still a story left over, Shyrka did you remember to include a red herring?

Great collection of excellently written stories. Don't ask me who wrote what, because I'm not good at guessing authors (you wonderful bunch of storytellers). As I figured, there would be quite a few dark tales of confinement.

However, one entry stood out in my mind...."You Can Try But..."

I was cheerfully delighted after reading it. The 1975 film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, came to mind. I shook my head and chuckled, then thought, "now that's, comedy." :D Yet, surreal and eerie. :cautious:

Once agian, spectacular reviews by Victoria Silverwolf & Shyrka

And yes, my Short List included everyone. It took me two days to choose a winner out of 20 stories.

A really nice challenge, well done all! I've been ghosting the thread, and wanted to congratulate Shyrka for a fine job of hosting.

All stories could be listed...it was terrific reading through them. But here are my lists:

Shortlist: The D'Zort Dropoff, The Trophy, Houddunit, Prison Tales
Finalists:
Dejuvenation - a really nice concept, and very effectively written. Super.
Solitary - Very moving, very sad. Loved the writing.
Life Reflections - A novel, mind-blowing concept. So good.
You Can Try But - A pure smile from start to finish!

Hmm...I honestly cannot decide between thees four. I'll get back to you. :)

edit: I'd have been very happy voting for any of my top four. But because there is a deadline (and because my dinner is getting cool) I went with the wonderful Solitary. Best of luck to all in the voting, CC

The poll is now closed and the winner is: Solitary, by @Droflet, who appears to be making a habit of this! It was close, with @Ihe and myself tied for second. A three-way tie was threatened at one point, but Droflet's entry just pipped us at the post.

Here's the list of authors:

Ascension Cubed -
Ihe
Assault on Blood Island Prison - Starbeast
Daily Coffee with your Copy - Cory Swanson
Dejuvenation - Shyrka
The D'Zort Dropoff - ThomasG
Father's Day - johnnyjet
Freedom - AJB
Houdunnit - chrispenycate
Life Reflections - Mad Alice
Lover's Promise - Coast
Masquerade - Wruter
Perplexed - Cathbad
A Place to Rest - Vaz
Prison tales... - StilLearning
Solitary - Droflet
Solitary Confinement - Victoria Silverwolf
Ten Million Times - Robert Mackay
The Trophy - Ashleyne B. Watts
Worm - VinceK
You Can Try But... - Mosaix

Well, that was exciting. Commiserations to Ihe (I voted for yours) and Shyrka. I could feel your collective breaths on the back of my neck. This could have been anyones, since the quality was ... well, Chrononauts. That's all.
Thanks to Shyrka for running a great contest. Also thanks to Victoria, Cory, CC and JJ for the votes. Also thanks for the mentions. Ha, four votes for a win shows how close it was.
On other months I've spent weeks toiling over a story and usually don't even get a mention. This story got onto the page in ten minutes. Five to edit, then post. Life's funny like that.

The poll is now closed and the winner is: Solitary, by @Droflet, who appears to be making a habit of this!

Hey?? I've never come close to a win. I think you are confusing me with a real writer.

Congrats, Droflet! It's a terrific story! Fast and furious does seem a good path to success, with the writing of the shorter challenge entries. :) CC

Haven't you? I could've sworn... Ah well, I blame a lack of sleep and trying to write posts when I should be working. Congratulations anyway!
