DISCUSSION -- January 2017 300-word Writing Challenge (#24)

HB will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this was sited a few miles outside Chichester for a while a few years back, at a place called the Trundle. A quick search shows that in 2010 one called Greekhead-Artemis** was destined for the Goodwood Estate, which is just around the corner, and that head looks identical to this one to me, so I think it's the same one. I don't know if it was only at Goodwood temporarily and has now moved on, but it was certainly only on the Trundle, where I saw it, for a short time. The sculptor is one Nic Fiddian-Green, as I think Erik mentioned in his piece.

** apparently he takes inspiration from the Parthenon Frieze for his horse sculptures

mosaix -- This moving account of painful memories creates great empathy for its inhuman narrator.

DG Jones -- In the tradition of classic animal fables, this powerful story allows the reader to share the emotions of a fellow creature.

Rafellin -- This philosophical meditation takes a look at the lost past from the perspective of the far future.

I was just reading the other stories and noticed the text in my story (2nd on page 2) is larger than the default, and there's no edit option. I'm sorry about that! Is there a moderator who can make it default-size (as long as my italics remain intact)? I posted straight from Evernote, and I'm sure it looked the same size as the others when I posted.

I'm sure it doesn't matter, Alex. In fact, because my eyesight is poor, I rather like it. :)

On the other hand there is a policy on the Chrons that once you've posted and the edit time is past then that's it. The thought seems to be that if you can't have it changed then you'll be more sure to make it right in the first place.

Don't worry about it. Some of the default fonts get a bit strange when it comes to font size, and it's not so large as to make it look like you're shouting at everyone. In fact, I doubt anyone would have thought twice about it if you hadn't said!

The edit option is only available for an hour after posting, and as mosaix says, no one can make any changes to the Challenge stories after the hour is up. Although we mods can if need be amend other members' posts at any time, to the best of my knowledge we've only done it once in a Challenge which was when someone's entry was rendered pretty much unintelligible because of software issues after it was posted.

Finally did it! I admit, I didn't spend as much time on this one as I have in the past, since I've been busy. But I did want to put something up, so here it is! :)

I'm looking forward to reading everyone's stories and participating in the vote!

Also I had to be really careful typing that in. My phone's autocorrect quite happily let me enter it without a predictive suggestion and then quite happily said it was correct. The phone had either given up or was taking the Michael.

Stable -- This wry tale makes use of a classic science fiction theme to relate an ironic conclusion.

chrispenycate -- By looking back on our own time from a distant future, as through a glass, darkly, this thoughtful story shows us how little we really know about the past.

Coast -- This intense space opera powerfully conveys the danger of making decisions without good information.

Shyrka -- This exciting technological fantasy reminds us to be careful of what we wish for.

LittleStar -- This dark account of a grim future shows how humanity often fails to learn from history.

The Storyteller -- This inspiring tale of despair evolving into hope and courage has a remarkable surprise in store for the reader.

Thank you for a lovely review as always Victoria! :)

Well, @The Storyteller , you cheated! You've hit upon my love and thoughts of horses!

;)

I gotta take whatever I can get Cathbad. ;)

It was about the third idea that popped into my head, and seemed a bit more promising than the ones that proceeded it!
