Discussion Thread -- FEBRUARY 2017 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Congratulations, Victoria!

And for everyone else, Victoria has to be away from her computer for a few days, so she left her choices for the next Challenge theme/genre just in case, so you wouldn't have to wait for her return. :)

Congratulations, Victoria! I loved your story from first reading on. And commiserations TJ! I loved your story from first reading on. A tough month, all around, with so many terrific tales.

Looking forward to reading Victoria's choices...though I shall not do so now, as it's 4:45am, and knowing myself, I'd try to enter by 5:30am. :) Have fun writing, everyone! CC

Congratulations, Victoria! And well done to The Judge on a very close silver.

Congratulations, Victoria! I knew how it would go though! *puts on the bridesmaid dress yet again -- and I look ghastly in yellow... :p*

Thanks again to all who voted for me originally and in the tie-break. Virtual chocolate cake to fatten you all up nicely is winging its way to you now.

I gave the origins of my story when I posted it, namely the comic poem, The Sycophantic Fox and the Gullible Raven (and if you've not followed the link and read it, do so now -- it'll start the day on a bright note!). I was originally going to use a mouse that grew too fat, but then it occurred to me that shrews are smaller, and then I realised I could end with a pun, so it all came together. However, the idea that there was ever a Mr Nice Shrew is plain fantasy, since they are bloodthirsty killers, as is made clear by Mr Big in Zootropolis/Zootopia:

I have no sympathy. I distinctly remember how you instantly gravitated toward the yellow one and insisted, against all argument, that it was essential to your happiness. We tried to buy you the blue one, but no. You would have none of that.

Besides, I might someday get a chance to wear it again, and I look ghastly in yellow, too. And it's all your fault.

Well, it looked so primrose-y and spring-like. And I thought it would suit Victoria to a T.

Hmm. We could try dyeing it. How does black sound?

Congratulations Victoria!

Sorry I didn't get my vote in, life got super busy for me these last two weeks and I haven't had much chances to check in to the chrons. Hopefully after this week things will get back to normal. I'll take a look at the next 75 word challenge, probably at the end of the week, see if I can get a good story put together!

Many thanks to all, with a particular nod to TheDustyZebra for taking care of the next challenge.

For all practical purposes, The Judge should be considered a co-winner, so congratulations are in order.
