DISCUSSION -- APRIL 2017 300-word Writing Challenge (#25)

I also think that the 75s would be more interesting if we had three votes. It would put more stories in contention. Maybe I would have a chance of ever getting more than one vote.

Yeah, that's wishful thinking. I suck at 75s.

Or maybe you could choose a top ten, each one worth 1 point with the vote getter receiving 10 points. @TheDustyZebra that wouldn't be too annoying to stat-track would it?

chrispenycate -- The calm realism of this tale of the fantastic makes it come to life for the reader.

Joshua Jones -- The author offers a sensitive character study of someone struck with an all too common malady.

Heijan Xavier -- Multiple viewpoints are used to create a sense of verisimilitude in this story of the extraordinary.

Uh oh. I've just tried posting my story and I'm getting a '403 Forbidden' error... I've tried on a couple of different connections and got the same each time. Is this some scurrilous plot to stop me from getting my entry in by the deadline?

It's just a side effect from my hack of the poll system for the 300 to assign all votes to me.

Damn I'm typing this out loud again.

There have been some problems with posting images, which Brian investigated and thought he'd solved. I'll raise the difficulty in the Staff Room in case this is an associated issue. Meanwhile, you could obviously post here, Shyrka, so I wonder if it's something to do with cutting/copying and pasting that's causing the problem -- perhaps try typing eg the title alone and pasting the rest to see if that helps.

EDIT: silly question, but you are trying to post in the 300, not the 75? The latter is now locked so would stop any non-mod posting there.

More seriously try copy pasting via Notepad (or other plain text editor). Sometimes word processing packages copy paste hidden code that can mess up online sites like forums or content management systems. MS Word is a bugger for this.

Yeah, there's definitely something odd going on. I've just successfully posted in the 75 discussion with a copy-paste attempt from Open Office Writer (my usual method) and that was fine. Will attempt a plain-text-from-notepad as recommended.

opuscosmos -- The use of vivid sensory details allows the reader to fully empathize with a viewpoint character of an unusual kind.

ErikB -- This powerful fable forces us to consider our own thoughtless actions and their consequences.

Stable -- By creating a modern myth, the author offers an allegory of the importance of decisiveness.

Phyrebrat -- An old legend is brought to life in a chilling new way in this tale of terror.

RJM Corbet -- With a powerful, direct style the author creates a compelling work of historical fiction.
However, like an idiot, I didn't even read the 'genre' choice for this challenge -- or even realize there was a 'genre' setting -- I just looked at the picture. I was too rushed. So I can only hope my story slips under the wire as 'speculative fiction'.

If not the mods are invited to take it off before the vote. The error was inadvertant. No disrespect was intended to members who carefully tailored their tales to meet the genre bracket. Sorry.

And no offence taken if my story gets removed.

Sigh ...
