DISCUSSION -- APRIL 2017 300-word Writing Challenge (#25)

Ok, so this weren't easy. Thankfully is a Bank Holiday here at the mo, so...

I've given brief comments of those who scored 7/10 or higher. A number were 6, but I have to draw the line somewhere!

The last three are the vote getters, but wow, it was super tight.

7-7.9 out of 10

@AlexH Fab story, scary, well written.

@mosaix Nice tension build, nice denouement

@Starbeast Weird, wacky and wonderful

@ratsy Well structured, good solid read.

@Mr Orange Well written.

@TheDustyZebra Very interesting glimpse inside the mind of a compromised child.

@Jo Zebedee Intriguing.

@Alex Darion

@johnnyjetGood sense of tension.

@Phyrebrat

8/8.5 out of 10

@Rafellin. Intriguing.

@Perpetual Man The first half is truly excellent, with excellent writing. Hugely convincing, honest, emotive and powerful.

@Stable Great writing here.

@Peter V Master crafted work.

@Ashleyne Loved this. Loved the concept.

@Joshua Jones Excellent. A tough subject, well carried off.

Josh and Ashylene were the closest to the final three, but I had to go with the least flawed, in terms of all criteria, pieces.

Well done everyone, excellent standard overall, I have to say

The 'Winners'

@Cat's Cradle Excellent. [An] excellent feat in so few words. Bravo.

@HoopyFrood Wow. Just wow. Even though you are my enemy, I, to appease the God of Honest Critique, must give you one of my three votes.

@Shyrka I can find no fault with this piece. Very well done.

Thank you for the vote, HoopyFrood! :)

Thank you for the vote, and kind words, Stuart Suffel! I agree with you about that clunky bit...truth be told, I tend to post too quickly. ;)

Tied for top o' the stack: Talysia and Titanium Ti

Runner up: wruter

Honourable mention: dannymcg

And, as I seem to have collected some unusual early attention for my little play on changeling myths:
thanks to Vaz, Stuart Suffel and Talysia for honourable mentions.

@HazelRah
That absolutely terrified me! Not kidding, it really did.
I will never, ever, ever tell that story to grandkids again. Hopefully it'll fade out of my mind one day but I know tonight will be sleepless.
True, not kidding, really not!

Haha, oh no! I didn't realise it was quite that scary... Thanks for the vote though! ;)

I got a vote! Somebody voted for me, thank you stranger --I'm so technically inept that I've spent five minutes looking at an open poll where 'all can see who voted' and I still can't find the fan of Mice Helium . Thankeesai :)

Reactions: Vaz
HazelRah -- The author creates a dark new folk tale, and offers the reader insight into the origin of old ones.

TheJudge -- This tender and bittersweet love story makes use of myth to portray both tragedy and hope.

TheDustyZebra --Through the use of stream of consciousness narration, we are drawn into the mind of the protagonist.

Ursa major -- The cool, matter-of-fact tone of this chilling fantasy increases its sense of horror.

I would like to congratulate and thank the continuous revues (of everyone), thank Cathbad, Stableand, TheDustyZebra for mentions and even more johnnyjet, Talysia and Vaz for votes - it is a very long time since I've had as many.
