Discussion thread -- June 2017 75-word Writing Challenge

When I was thanking people for their votes, I somehow managed to miss Vaz.

Thank you, Vaz!

And slipping into moderating mode: just a reminder to everyone who hasn't voted yet, there is still time left (as of now) to read the stories and choose your favorites. But voting does close today.

I'm voting, and posting this, early, as I don't want something to happen that will stop me doing so in good time....

Speaking of happenings, it's no accident that the Ursa jury has ranked the stories they way it have. Or is it? Let's see, shall we? (The stories are in posting order within the categories.)

Honourable Mentions:
  • THE VOYAGE by Piper
  • If Something Can Go Wrong... by mosaix
  • Catastrophic Failure by TheDustyZebra
Runners Up:
  • No Exceptions by HoopyFrood
  • Usually Invisible by Teresa Edgerton
  • Every. Single. Time by ratsy
Winners:
  • Best Laid Plans by Culhwch
  • The Mutiny of the 761st Interplanetary Marine Regiment: “The Bloody Belt Bandits” by Tywin
  • Larry, from Room 13 by Starbeast

We have more voters than stories, which is always a good thing, but we're still six voters short of the total in the 300 image poll. Anyone vote there who hasn't voted here yet? Time is running short...

I did mean to enter this with something atrociously Irish and then it was the 25th and... dang it. Murphy's flaming law!

But Chrispy did it for me! And I was in it! So he got a vote (probably robbing poor Robert Mackay who needs to up his bribes, frankly...)

I also went for Wruter and Tywin and liked many more lots too

Thank you, The Dusty Zebra for liking my story. I appreciate it.

Sorry, I forgot all about the voting thing until now. Let me just say my mind has been elsewhere. Where exactly? Other than trying to create a Sci-Fi short for the possibility of being in an anthology? You see that dark corner over there? That's where my mind has been.

I also celebrated my birthday. Another day older and deeper in debt, as the song once said. I had fun.

I also broke my foot. Not fun at all and I can't wait to get that boot off my foot permanently. At least put it away until I need it again, which hopefully, will be never again.

In a rush here, so no time for a proper shortlist, but after a lot of consideration my votes went to Hoopy, Robert and Perp; Tywin, Piper and mosaix were in the running.

Many contented feline thanks to CC and Stable for the honourable mention and creamy-salmony thanks to Lumens for the lovely vote!
Thanks!

Woot Woot! Thanks Ursa!

Congrats to all for creating such good stories this month. And this tiebreaker! Well done Robert and mosaix.
I always hope, in a tiebreaker, that one story finished higher in my lists than the other, so I can just blame my earlier judgments when voting..."I had to vote for story ABC - it's higher, you see!" In other words, I wish both stories could win.
After a few read-throughs, I decided to vote for Robert's story by a whisker...but both were fine.
Thank you to Starbeast for listing my story, and Cory Swanson for the vote!! I'm, honestly, having trouble at the moment feeling inspired to write challenge stories, so any little notice of my weird tale is greatly appreciated.
Best of luck to both finalists!

We get two votes in the tiebreaker, right? Right?

Arrrrgh it's two of the three I voted for. What to do, what to do?

Cake. Let's see who sends the best cake. That'll sort it.

I just went sauntering into the tiebreaker poll and then realised the same! Can I give half a vote each?

Well, I was delighted when I was at 5-6 votes... but 9, and a joint second place! Wow. Thats more than i had both times i won, darn three votes messing up my statistics
But thank you very much for everyone who thought my story was at least third best. It is always so nice to feel like you've created something people genuinly enjoy :D
Congrats to both Robert and Mosaix for the top spot sharing, and to HazelRah for joining me down a step with the silver bridesmaid dress in hand.

My tie-breaker vote goes to Mosaix, for the nice sense of karmic completion (y)

Well I was also one of those who voted for both of them the first time round, and I really love both stories so I literally had to toss a coin to decide who to vote for in the tiebreaker.

Sorry Robert Mackay :(

Can you add a poll to a single post or does it have to be a whole thread of its own? I'm curious to know how many people grasped what I was trying to allude to in my story versus how many folk were just completely nonplussed by it.
