Chrons Dublin and Belfast cluster meet -2019

We shall find tents and all go and camp in Kerry's horse paddocks... ;)

It'll be like Glastonbury, but with writers instead.

Count me in for Milly's husband's BBQ!

(am planning on attending both events, so count me in for both get togethers)

So when do these things sell out? If I were to, say, save money till this time next year and see how things are going, would it still be possible to get memberships?

It should still be fine. It's almost two years until the actual events. Some tickets will be bought up really early, but a lot not until closer to the date, when people know what they're doing.

Hope to see you there. :)
Wonder if we could get a Chrons hotel rate, with a block booking for so many members attending? Oh, that's right, we're all camping out in Kerry's field, and Jo's garden, eating Mr @millymollymo's barbecue! :p

Sam - there should be no danger of a sell out this soon, I think.

Re accomodation - Dublin IS pricey, even with con rates, so be prepared. It is reasonably small by normal standards but still takes a little bit of getting around but there should be accomodation nearby.

Belfast will be cheaper, but there is a dearth of accomodation in general (due to our unique reception to tourists - and each other - over the years ensuring we were hardly a tourist mecca.) Still now we're all friendly and welcoming :)D) there are a lot of new ones going up and the venue is very, very central.

I have memberships for both, which will be my third WorldCon and first Eurocon (although I've been to the other Titancons).

I don't remember hearing of a WorldCon selling out in advance (this year's WorldCon in Helsinki did stop selling tickets on the door after they got an unexpectedly large number of sales on the first day). I do wonder if Dublin might be more likely to than most, since I imagine a lot of Americans would want to visit Ireland as well as Europeans, and I think I've heard it's a smaller venue than the ones used for Helsinki or London, but even if it does come close to selling out I imagine it will be a while until that will really be a worry. I know last year's Eurocon in Barcelona sold out a few months in advance (because I was thinking of going to it but missed out), but that might be unusual.

One thing worth mentioning is that it's generally cheaper to buy in advance because prices will go up as time goes on. I know the Belfast prices are going up on 1st October this year, although if you buy a supporting membership now for £10 then you can upgrade to attending membership at any point in the future for the current price minus the cost of the supporting membership (see here for details). I'd guess the Dublin prices go up at some point as well because that's what traditionally happens, but I can't see any details on their website other than the current prices.

That's good. I was thinking of that episode of TBBT where they were sitting around on all their computers waiting for the Comic-Con tickets to go on sale, and still missed them. :p

I can't predict for certain what my life will be doing in two years, so I'd rather make that call a bit closer to the event. But I'd hate to be thinking of going for two years and then find out I couldn't. Well, I suppose if that turned out to be the case, you'd all just have to attend my tailgate party in the parking lot.

Ooh, a Chrons tailgater. I would go to that!

Note: remember that if you've never been to Worldcon before (this will be my first, hopefully!), there's a cheaper ticket for first-timers - pretty cool. :)

I was at this year's Titancon last weekend and I was chatting to someone who was involved in the Dublin bid about whether WorldCon might sell out. They said that there is a thought the membership might have to be capped at some point, but a cap hasn't been decided on yet (it might be in the 5-6000 range), they thought it was likely it would sell out but not until nearer the con. Someone else made a suggestion that it might be worth looking at buying a membership before next year's WorldCon in San Jose because that might be the time when lots of people starting thinking about signing up to the next Con in Dublin.

Did we say hi? I know I was chatting to a William :) If so, hi again. If not, would be cool to sometime. :)

I don't think there is any danger of a sell out at this stage but I am in Dublin for Octocon and might hear more then. But certainly no one is shouting for me to get a membership asap (although I did get a supporting one for Eurocon 2019).

In the meantime, the hotel prices for Eurocon were announced at the closing ceremony of Titancon and are a pretty nifty £80 for a single and £90 for a double. At that price I suspect I'll stay over and I only live half an hour away! And, if it's not with breakfast included, the main Belfast market is a 2 min walk away with breakfast baps* to die for.

*white bread rolls filled with sausage, bacon or egg of your choice.

I did get you to sign a copy of Inish Carraig I bought, and I'm not sure there were any other Williams there, so it probably is me you're thinking of :)

Sounds decent!

Tickets bought for both. Work informed of non-negotiable time off 'request' for August 2019 (they cannot say I didn't give them plenty of notice).

Now all I have to do is book hotels closer to the date.
Oh, and save money so I can eat, and buy books and stuff -- I might even need to have a glass of wine.

I still have my tickets to buy!

Dublin is expensive for hotels, Belfast shouldn’t be. Plus there’s the offer of a sofa :)

Can I assume that the "First Worldcon membership" is, in terms of the access it provides, the same as "Adult membership"?
