When is the deadline for voting? I need another thorough read through to finally whittle down my winners.

In all sincerity, it’s best if you just vote now - for me - otherwise things just get nasty.:sneaky:

Right, I went for...
  • @Ihe - just loved the imagery in this and the sneaky play
  • @mosaix - I could hear the telephone call as I was reading it. Nice writing.
  • @Vaz - a dashing and clever rogue
Thanks for the votes @Talysia, @Rafellin, @Lex E. Darion and @DragonAether plus all the mentions so far folks. I do believe, at this point, it's the best I've ever done. So I'm already a winner :)

I can confirm things have got nasty since I voted, and I only made this post a few seconds after!

Hey, thanks for the shortlistings and even a couple of votes! I neither confirm nor deny punching the air and doing a wee dance each time I read that.

Got a day off work today so planning to get stuck into the stories and cast my own votes. Really looking forward to it.

Voting time.

My top 10 are:

Ihe - Gaming the system
Luiglin - Gardener's Worlds
Chrisp - Big Boy's Stuff!
Wruter - dramaticus ironicus!
Kerry - Kerry 4 Terry 4Eva
DA Xiaolin Spires - Blue Murder!
Phyrebrat - Human Detritus
Spoots - Imposter Syndrome
Vaz - Barking at the moon!
Littelstar - time on her hands.

After much deliberation, I went for:
Ihe - something about the nostalgic, D&D vibe got me really into the story, and I bought into the nerd winning the day. Maybe it's because Stranger Things is back on the tellybox, but this one got its hooks in me.
Chrisp - some really lovely phrasing ("mummy tells me not to talk to strange men, though she does" is poignantly suggestive, a great line) and an odd "otherness" possessed by the narrator made this stand out.
Phyrebrat - damn you, you've done it again. Wonderful reveal.

Special mention to Starbeast, whose highly enjoyable tale of compete and utter nonsense easily made me LOL more than once ("Tall, black and bitter, Like my dad!"). And it was a special treat for Sekrit Santa fans!
