@Teresa Edgerton .... Hm.... preacher possessed by a demon, yea, that would likely taint things for me. On the other hand I do have a Kindle fire so I could give it a look. I'll have to give it some more thought.

I only watched the first series myself - good, very atmospheric, but quite slow-paced and I wasn't convinced they knew exactly what story they were telling. By the end of the first season there was lots of mystery and not a lot else. Great setting though.

@Parson even though Clancy Brown played the minister I think you’d have not enjoyed it. It was very dark and he fell from grace quite spectacularly, ending up as an instrument for evil.

It was cancelled after Season 2. I think it was by the team who made the brilliant Battlestar Galactica reboot.

Well, pH, you may remember that in the scenes of the little Russian girl and boy:

Evil gained a foothold in him when he was very young, long before he became a minister, but it did seem like the struggle for his soul was still going on when the series began. I admit that I kept hoping that he would somehow be saved, although by the end that possibility no longer seemed to exist.

Yes! Me too. It was Clancy Brown after all and I love him!!! I was so torn between my love for the show and his horrid character.

I felt the same as Teresa about Carnivale, It really needs another season or some other format to tie things up. All the acting including supporting cast made it a great show. ps: If you have Amazon, check out firestick, I find it's worth the price.

Congratulations Mosaix! It was indeed an interesting story.

My story found its genesis in a song. Shelly West sang a song entitled "Jose Cuervo" whose hook line was "I had too much tequila last night" and key line for my story went: "Now wait a minute, things don't look to familiar. And who is this cowboy sleeping beside me? He's awfully cute, but how did I get his shirt on? I had too much tequila last night."

Ohhhh I totally missed that -- and I used to love that song! Now it's stuck in my head again. :p

Yep, that is definitely an ear-worm. My problem is that I always want to attribute it to Terri Clark. Just like I want to attribute another ear-worm "Somebody's Knocking" to Terri Clark, when it is Terri Gibbs only true hit. (In the past decade or so she's gone gospel and has had a gospel hit "The First Thing I'll See" (I assume you know she was blind from birth) and the hook line is "The first thing I'll see is Jesus" which of course is a tear jerker. Here a lousy video of the good song.

Sounds like you listened to country radio during my heyday as a DJ. :D Although I believe "Somebody's Knockin'" was a golden oldie by then.

I can't even think who Terri Clark is, though.

:D Yeah, well after a misspent decade and a half in popular music, I turned to Country in about 80 and was a big fan for the next 30 years. About the middle of the naughts it seemed to me that what I really liked about country music, the ballads, the emphasis on family, honor, and hard work in lyrics started degenerating into a whole bunch more drinking songs than before and a lot more of a real popular music vibe. So now mostly I if I listen (more likely to listen to books as I drive) I listen to Sirius Radio, a station that plays 80's and 90's country.

Terri Clark: "Girls Lie Too," "Better Things to do," "Easy on the Eyes" and "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me." were probably her biggest hits.

BTW: I loved the little rhyme "My heyday as a DJ.:

Congrats Mosaix

I found it very difficult this month to get all three elements of theme and genre -- Western, weird and carnival/circus -- and in my view most people only managed two of the three...

Indeed. I was so busy working out what weird western was, I forgot there was also a theme.
