Hmm. Well I don't hate it but I don't particularly like it either, so I haven't voted. I stopped watching after episode 7 as I was finding it a bit dull. I'm not bothered by any of the changes or the tech, I just don't care about any of the characters, and that is a 'must' for me if I'm going to engage with it and enjoy it. I may go back to it at some point, I suppose.

If you don't like the characters now, I see no reason for you to return - it's not like they're going to massively change...

Blasphemy ! :eek::p

Let's face the truth: The characters on Discovery are already more developed than TOS' were after a full 29-episode 1st season.

The acting is definitely better than TNG's first season.

Granted, the stories have been hit-and-miss, most good, none great, a couple confusing, but the same could be said of those of all tree seasons of TOS.

I can understand someone who hasn't enjoyed the first 9 episodes, but given ST history, I honestly don't understand attacking it on the basis of the characters. Most of those commenting on social media like the series, but of those that don't the most often common is about some of the characters being unlikeable. Which is very odd, given that a big portion of complaints about past series has been that all the characters are... you got it... too likeable.

Could this be another example of the Sci-Fi fans' need to complain about the franchises they claim to love?

I like it, it has grown on me with each episode. As for canon etc, I find it helps to look at it as a sequel to Enterprise rather than a prequel to ST:TOS.

Not in my case, if that's what you're trying to say. I didn't attack it. I wanted to love it, but I neither like it nor hate it, and there was no option to vote for that point of view. I said I don't care for any of the characters, not that they're unlikeable. They could be the most likeable characters around but it's possible to not care for them, still. I like shades of grey, but I like to engage with the personalities, and that hasn't happened for me with this.

I completely disagree with the first sentence of your post, by the way :p

I don't know why you took my post personally, but my apologies if it seem so.

No worries, I thought your response might in part be referring to me saying I didn't care about the characters, that's all :)

This is exactly how I feel. I've enjoyed it more with each episode and im looking forward to more episodes.
The canon thing hasn't bothered me half as much as I thought it would, and it does kind-of fit as a follow on from Enterprise
(Athough I did nearly spit my coffee when Lorca's shuttle described that weird Klingon ship as a D7 battlecruiser lol)

Yeah, the D-7 not looking remotely like it should, bothers me a lot more than I thought it would.

I've watched literally every episode of every series. I couldn't begin to tell you what a D-7 looks like.

Guess it goes to show you what matters to different people. :D

I believe this is a D7

@Cathbad , don't worry, but there ARE people who role-play and who take the engineering and ship design aspects extremely seriously. (There are several best selling books on the Constellation class and Galaxy class ship designs.) Then there are others that draw, paint and animate these ships.

It doesn't bother me so much; it could be an early design we haven't yet seen, but you would think that after spending so much time having actors speak Klingon with English subtitles, they might small spend a fraction of that time getting the engineering designs correct?

Well, it does look a lot different, and should hold a different nomenclature; tough that's for those who stress out on such things. :D

Im sorry but that's simply not the D7 .
