Review of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Went and saw it with the missus this evening. By far the best of the prequels, even better than Return of the Jedi, IMHO. Doesn't have the charm of A New Hope or the script power of Empire Strikes Back, but does what it is supposed to do rather well. By which I mean, this was the seduction of Anakin to the Dark side, and his betrayal and slaughter of the Jedi.

Palpatine played him like a cheap fiddle (violin for you wine sipping types), and Anakin succumbed to the tendencies he displayed rather violently following his mother's death. Lots of eye candy, and lightsabers galore. In other words, what you really would expect it to be for a Star Wars movie.

This is not supposed to be writing for the well educated, it is a mass market vehicle and not truly great movie making. Star Wars, The Matrix, and most other movie empires are built on finding a connection with large numbers of people. Star Wars (Episode 4 A New Hope) was the breakthrough special effects movie, and most people 25 and up who go to see this movie will be going because Revenge of the Sith is a Star Wars movie, not because they expect it to be an Oscar nominated screenplay. 10 to 25 year old folks will go because of the special effects, and under ten will go because of the merchandising campaign.

If you are going to see a Star Wars movie, enjoy it you will, immensely. If you are looking for the next Academy Award winner, go to the video store or go to another movie and leave the seats for the rest of us.

Finally someone who doesn't think the movie sucked. I loved this movie. I've seen it 5 times already( well 4 times if you don't count the time I went with my boyfriend, Jared, and didn't pay any attention to the movie ;) )and it gets better everytime. Plus people always say that the dialogue sucks but I've never seen anything wrong with it. And I think it might be nominated for an Academy Award propbably for special effects but still...

I thought ROTS was good. It had some faults but I still really enjoyed the movie.

I was very dissapointed in this movie: Here are some reasons:It's storyline is weak. And if you tell me that the acting was the best you have ever seen, you have issues. The Whole "Oh Ian was great in this" is a sham. He was ok, but let's face it, between his weasing and lines like "Good Oh Good" were nauseating and silly to look at. There are some things I liked in the movie, but not enough to priase Lucas for his laziness and poor direction.

Ok let's deal with what was on film:

The Declaration Speech: Speech? It was like muffled dialogue. (see the cut scene would have helped this) But that aside, AOTC was much more powerful. This scene was weak. After all that talk about it being one of the best performances by Ian. Please

Anakin and Padme: The acting improved? Really? I didnt see it. Padme was made to be a duck in this film, but the cut scenes show more of her being involoved that the film did.

The Turn: That was it? He just bows and says "I'll do anything you ask". But he was just about to turn Sidious in. Not only that, but how about Lucas having Anakin reflecting on what Palpatine said to him, yet the line he reflects on isnt even in the movie. Oh that's a smart idea.

The final Duel: The high ground thing is just silly. Enough said. But the duel lacked some personal feeling. Need I say the 5 minutes of cut scenes could have helped here?

don't fault people for having information about what was cut. For we got to see what was being edited. Maybe that's why Lucas doesn't like things leaked out, cause he is afraid that what he hacked would be revealed and we could see how bad at directing he really is. I don't regret knowing all I know. I regret that some people are not being objective to recognize this film was a bit over the average mark and nothing more.

your review is all good and well, but you kidna missed out the other 50% of the film, the visuals, the art direction, the scale and idea's.
All of which making an apperantly poor film a hit, as it turns out.

Yeah, ok, I'm not to be taken too seriously, but what was wrong with the visuals etc., looked fine to me.

hi am new i saw ROTS on the opening weekend and it was brillient . My fav SW Ep is The Empire Strikes back . Ok it was very good lines up to EP 4 very well the duel was brillient . The Dvd will be 20 mins longer then what we saw in the cinema.

The DVD Talk review simply cheers on the special effects. Any movie where a review calls the central character "tolerable" can hardly be said to be encouraging.

ok someone said about hidding the girl very well but she was found by the empire in ep 4

Yoda and obi win did thats why they wanted to hide them so anakin would not kill them

Well, I've finally gotten around to watching this. It had some nice effects but the acting was pretty uninspired. I got the impression that some of those actors were just in there so they could say they'd been a part of it all. The problem with the plot in a film of this nature (right in the middle of a 6 film series) is that you know exactly where it's going. The journey to the conclusion has to be something pretty special to compensate for this. Unfortunately this movie did not have that compensation.

On the whole an OK film but nothing special.
I guess the acid test is: would I want to watch it again? Probably not.
