DISCUSSION -- January 2018 300 Word Writing Challenge (#28)

phew, made it. voted with 3 minutes to spare.

you'll have to look at the poll to see who I voted for. it's lunch time now.

Congratulations, well deserved.

Sad to see I didn’t get any votes this time. Will have to see what I can do to improve on that :)

Congrats Perpetual Man and thank you for the shortlsting. Getting a mention from the writer who got 12 votes is a good enough for me. Thank you Victoria Silverwolf for the vote, I'll take unusual or memorable any day. Thank you Cats Cradle for the vote and to the unknown 3rd voter, thank you Miss Calabash, wherever you are. If a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, then this was the Winter Olympics of 300 word challenges. Every story was worth reading at least twice.

Congratulations Perpetual Man

Excellent job to everyone!

My Story: For a long time, I had an idea for a mythical hero story featuring Hercules. But then I thought about it for while, and decided to use Thor instead. When I saw the plant, I thought, "What if Thor needed to save his father's life with a mystical thistle." It sounded good to me, but I needed to brush up on my "thee's and thou's", for Thor's lines. I knew using too many "thou's" would sound lame, so I tried to get the lingo down by researching the way Thor spoke by viewing a few 1966 Marvel cartoons. That helped, and, I got my finished product which I am very happy with. After reading it, I got emotional for my tale of two brothers, who put their personal differences aside because they both loved their father. (sigh)

CONGRATULATIONS PERPETUAL MAN!

Behind The Story-My mind had started going through a potential story for another picture. When the milkweed was chosen I got stuck. Lucky for me, Wall-E was on. That gave me enough of an idea to write my story. Not original, no, but I got something. lol.

Congratulations, Perp!!

Thank you SPoots for the vote!

Reading through the stories before I voted confirmed to me that there is no image so innocent and innocuous that our community here can't make something sinister of it. Given a picture of a useful plant, so many minds turned to war and invasion. I shudder to think what we all might have made of a morning glory or a daisy.

Congratulations, Perp! That's a great win :)

For my story I didn't see the wood for the trees; I completely missed the cotton and in my fleeting glimpse mistook it for birds' feathers. The midwestern setting made the stick look a little like a shamanistic totem, and after reading up on some Native American folklore, I was off. Thanks to all the fine chaps and chapettes who listed me, while bird-brained, feathery fanks go to Phyrebrat, Luiglin, Teresa and Hoops for the votes!
