Discussion -- January 2018 -- 75 Word Challenge

I've really enjoyed reading the entries and have cast my vote.

Shortlist:
SPoots - creative and funny, always a good combo in my book! There is something charming about the four horseman of the apocalypse squabbling.
Luiglin - a harrowing portrayal of desperation. This got the biggest reaction from me among the bleaker visions of the post-apocalyptic world.
HoopyFrood - This made me laugh. I like the idea that people would have the same worries after the world ended as they do now, except with the addition of irradiated monsters!

My vote:
HoopyFrood - the twist at the end was unexpected and as I say, I really like the optimistic idea that if calamity did strike we'd all bounce back to some kind of normality. People accept the reality with which they are presented...and then start stressing about their driving test!

Unfortunately due to work commitments and a very busy weekend, I cannot give my usual reasons why I like particular entries (or at least I do not have the time to do it properly). However, I thought I really should pop in and at least vote because it would be unforgivable not to.

As always there are a lot of great entries but below are my personal favourites.

SPoots, reiver33, johnnyjet, Luiglin, Teresa Edgerton, Perpetual Man and Shyrka.

It was a very close call between Shyrka and johnnyjet. I wish I had two votes!

Thank you tons to The Big Peat, and chrispenycate for the listings!!!

Quite a range of styles. Some poetic, some funny and some down right sinister! Great stuff.

Shortlist:
EPT Henry, Alone
CTRandall: Flea
paranoid marvin: Homeward Bound

Voted: Warren Kramer, Shelter

I enjoyed reading them all.

My Favorites: 3000 Miles to the Ultimate Music Store (@Starbeast

Thanks Cathbad, for the the listing. You made my evening. I had fun writing that one.

Every exit was interesting. The ones
where I had to stop for a short while were marked; Shelter, Flea, 3000 miles to ultimate music store

Thank you Jackwinabox57, for the mention. I had a feeling that most would write a heavy drama, so I chose a slightly comical idea.

I'm amazed how such short stories can move me. My favourites are:
Ashleyne, Spoots, Luiglin, Phyrebrat, EPT Henry, Glen, CTRandall, Shyrka, The Judge, The Dusty Zebra

@Shyrka gets my vote, closely followed by Spoots and The Judge. The father daughter love and the sacrifices parents make for their children was illustrated to beautiful and devastating effect in A Spoonful of Sugar.

Thanks HITECH_lowlife for the shortlisting

And thankyou Starbeast for the finallisting and the kind words

The Judge gets my vote, Shortlist is Old_Man_Steve_2016 and ASleepyGiraffe with a speacial mention to Starbeast who makes the Apocalypse sound like a fun place to be (as long as you like Zombie Duck).

I've voted. (Not bad going considering I forgot all about the challenges and only remembered this morning...)

There were a number that stood out, mostly the humorous ones did it for me this month, but there was something about mosaix's that piqued me a fraction more than the others. So that's where the vote went.

And while we're at it, and speaking of voting, now that the 75 poll is nearly closed, and you can only wait with baited breath to vote in the 300, perhaps you might like to alleviate that need to choose and vote for stories by dancing over to the Perp Challenge, there is still time to vote for your favourite story there :)
