c.1930. Not just a cigarette machine, a lit cigarette machine...

1930? Makes perfect sense when people could either afford a cigarette or a match but not both.

This is strange because I was thinking about my dad’s lighter from his days in the navy today. I remember having to run to the shop for lighter fluid or flints many times. He refused to use a disposable lighter because he hated the French. That was until the shop stopped carrying fluid and flints.

I can remember buying Ronson 'Firebronze' flints in a handy pack...

And the little shop at the bottom of our road sold a Woodbine and two matches for a penny.
Not that I ever bought one, of course - Woodbines were unfiltered...

Our shop like that was about 100 yards from the High School.
The lady who ran it had a strange set of ethics.
She would sell cigs to anyone with the money but alcohol [tins of lager or cider for 20p?] were only for the final year pupils [they had blue jumpers not grey like the other years].
Ah, to live again in a world where you could booze at 15!

A slight digression here, it's a Woolworths UK advert for Christmas 1977, featuring Georgie Fame as the singer (with a shameless rip-off of the doo wap from Telephone Line by ELO)
However there are several old technology items featured, Stylophone, record player, cassette recorder, portable TV, six million dollar man watch, and more (TBH I was more interested in a 2.5 kg tin of Quality Street for £4.45)
Anyways, it's poor quality but enjoy this two minutes of nostalgia

There was also another DJ, worked with Blackburn. Another Tony I think but I can' remember his name.
