DISCUSSION -- March 2018 -- 75 Word Story Challenge

As the new ads prevent me from "watching" threads, I'm merely posting this so it comes up in my "Watched Threads" section! :D

Are you able to change to the ad-free version? I think it's via the bottom left of the screen.

As Hugh says, go to the bottom of the screen, where you'll find the red bar with 'SFFChronicles' on the left, and 'Contact Us', 'Help', 'Home', 'Top'. If you click on 'SFFChronicles', you get a choice of formats: one is 'SFFchronicles - ad free'. Choose that and normal service will be restored.

I waited till I had my eye fixed to enter my story, still kinda fuzzy for close work but my distance vision is much improved.

It sounds like you're having cataract surgery, @Bob Senior. I had that a couple years ago. If it works the same for you as it did for me, you have one eye done, then two weeks later the other eye. Your distance vision becomes clear, but you'll always need reading glasses for close up vision. I use either 2X or 2.5X reading glasses. You can get them cheap in lots of stores, but I found they break easily, so I had to buy a bunch of them. But then I ended up getting prescription bifocals from my eye doctor with plain glass at the top and 2X glass at the bottom.

By the way, cool story, Bob! You did very well with fuzzy vision.

Thank you, very much. You too, @Hugh ! :)

Hi Johnnyjet, I had cataract surgery two years ago on my rt eye but the cataract came back, same eye that I had a series of injections in the eyeball over a six month period. Cataracts can come back, lazer took care of it, doctor said it will not come back. I have no central vision in my left eye but they will try to improve what little vision remains. I know this is not the place to preach about eyecare BUT , if we want to write then our eyes are a very important tool. I will have to get injections every other month for the rest of my life, hurts for a while but the benefit are worth it.. A week ago I read each word with a magnifying glass, I was blind but now I see.
Take care of your eyes!!! They are doing wonders out there.
Bob

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

Nothing intelligent to say.

I’m just glad that there’s something they can do.

Chin up @Bob Senior. Eyes are important but not the most important. As someone who wear glasses since 12 (which was a life time ago), I understand you very well.
P.S. As Hugh said I wanted to say something intelligent and it come up as a small story, but not sure where to put it (or how appropriate it is). We are already derailing this thread from its original purpose.

Thank you so much! All the ads had been doing my head in!

I had a question here, but reread the rules and answered it myself. Huzzah!

@LittleStar .... Gravity .... Is a story that proves that at least sometimes there is great peace and great beauty before death and gravity steal it all away.

@Stable .... On The Cogship Regina
.... Who knows? In a parallel universe the Victorian age might just have lasted, and people might not find much changed, but I still think the Cogship (love that term!) Crew is in for an incredible shock.

What're the word count rules on contractions? I.e. is that question seven words or eight?

I'm not sure if this the correct approach to contact moderators, but here goes...
@chrispenycate, @Culhwch , @HareBrain , @nixie , @Teresa Edgerton, @TheDustyZebra , @The Judge, @Ursa major

As @Parson helpfully pointed out below "If it's a used contraction it's okay" and mentioned in the rules.
The contractions would be used in speech only, examples being:
What're (What are)
What's (What is or what was)
How'd (How would or how did)
They'd (They would or they did)
It's (It is or it has or it was)

I'm sure you get the idea (Oh look, there's another one, oh and another)
I don't want to be seen to be overusing them and accused of cheating or 'bending the rules', but I'm really close to the 75 word limit!

Is it just my impression or the voting in 75 word contest is really low? I've counted only 43 voters for February 2018 contest while the forum have over 42K registered users.

While everyone is encouraged to take part or vote not everyone does. I primarily frequent the writing sub forums of Chrons but that's only one corner. I suspect that could be said the same for others who only read the Films area.

There are 42K registered users, but that doesn't mean that there are 42K regular users. My sense of the situation is that there are about 60 people who frequent the site AND POST weekly or more often (some of us daily and more often) with a much larger contingent of people who mostly lurk.

@nixie .... History Repeats .... A story which makes me wonder about how time progresses when you seem to be caught in a causality loop.
