DISCUSSION -- April 2018 300 Word Writing Challenge #29

Calliopenjo -- At the end of a long quest an unexpected encounter is found in this mysterious and intriguing tale.

Perpetual Man -- The nature of storytelling itself is explored in this nostalgic, cleverly structured narrative.
 
Dan Jones -- Through the creative use of language the author offers the reader a new view of humanity.

johnnyjet -- This emotional story reveals an insight into the nature of past and present, as well as the bonds of family.
 
Finally have a draft done, but it is slightly over... 666 words, that is. As this figure is problematic on multiple levels, I have some work to do. Let the dissection commence!
 
I am not sure how, but I somehow managed to cut over half my story and still have something that makes sense, at least to me.

Well I'm in. It's more of a slice of life than a story but I thought I'd try it anyway.

Now to get thoroughly disheartened and read the other entries:cry:
 
Almost didn’t enter this month. My first story went through 4 revisions and 4 spousal rejections. Finally tried a last minute effort of something completely different and it was well received. So I’m in!
 
Well, that was unexpected.

I've been thinking trolls for the last couple of days and had got the start of the story, but I couldn't reconcile some vaguely comedic lines I wanted in there with a veering-towards-sentimental plot, and the ending wouldn't come at all. Finally, as I was running out of time, I put finger to keyboard and went for a daft non-ending which the Judicial Helpmeet liked, though I was less enamoured. Then, out of the blue, the Shylock quote I'd pinched started yelling at me and threw a new title into my face, so out went the comedy and the second half virtually re-wrote itself. But now it's gone, I quite miss the happy non-ending. :(
 
I've just looked in the Challenges forum after a month in China and I have just over 150 minutes to start and finish an entry for this. I think I'll go to bed. :D
 
Really don't know why I put that hyphen where I did, seems like a stupid thing to do to a title. Oh well at least I managed to enter this time.
 
It was a close one this month, had an idea for a story brewing, then realised two days ago that it was lacking distinctly in the SFF genre. So today I threw out 692 words of something new and struggled for a good 90 minutes to get it down. Twenty edits later, and I'm in:sleep::confused:
