DISCUSSION — May 2018 75-Word Writing Challenge

Veil Wars 101, @unbusy thing – A rich and intriguing insight into a war of shambling sheep and shrieking shades. Read carefully or it’ll be your undoing.

To be – veiled – or not to be, @The Judge – A powerful and harrowing tale of oppression and forced identity that conjures a stark sense of frustration and impotence and is worryingly applicable to our modern world.

Journey to the Centre of the Self, @TheDustyZebra – Based on the legend of Charon the Ferryman, this story of coming to terms with one’s life has a bitter-sweet twist.

Beyond, @Mr Orange – This creepy, atmospheric verse shows that sometimes what has passed beyond the veil is, in fact, us.

More votes, thanks so much D3athw4lker, Stable, and Peter V...and thank you for the nice words about my story, Stable. Sorry about your scalp! ;)

I appreciate the mentions I have, but I want to be a better writer.

What would you guys suggest I do to make a more appealing story.

When the voting is over, you can post your story in the “Improving our 75-word stories” thread for feedback, if you wish. That often gives a good idea of what people were looking for that they didn’t find. :)

Thanks, I have rapid fire keyboard fingers.

Voted for Cat's Cradle

Sorry for no words or shortlists this time round. Only arrived back in the UK, somewhat jet lagged yesterday and playing a lot of catch up with work. I would also like to use being busy with work and preparations for my break as the reason for my stealth voting for the 300 just before I departed.

Hopefully normal service will be resumed next month ;)

Tough weekend, so just quickly, my lists, and vote:

Honorables:

D.A. Xialoin Spires, dannymcg, Artoriarius

Shortlist:
Luiglin, mosaix, Shyrka, The Judge, Mr. Orange

Finalists:
Onyx - Metamorphic
Stable - Release
M. Robert Gibson - Dance Of The Seven...
Heijan Xavier - Heroes Are Manufactured And Sacrificed

Vote:
Stable. I really liked the atmosphere here, and the bleakness...seemed very Weird Fiction, to me. Well done, Stable.

A big thanks to Hugh for the mention. Best of luck, all, in the voting, CC
