Discussion Thread -- June 2018 75-word Writing Challenge

Well I guess I should be happy that two of my shortlisted stories "won" but now I have to decide which one I like best?? You're not making it easy, people!

I have, after much hand-wringing, plumped for @Ashleyne's because of its lovely little sting in the tail.

I missed the first vote, so I can't say I'm sticking to my previous decision.
Both the stories in the tie break are absolutely terrific, but the idea of a 3D reprint of someone just blew me away.
If/when someone invents a teleporter, we'd better hope it all happens fast enough for us to be unaware of the intermediate state.

Would you reprint me a new body provided there’s not a problem interfacing my soul and mind with it, too.

Congrats both!

I have voted for @Ashleyne. I've often said those words to myself: "What was I thinking?"

I love the tension of a close race. :D

BTW - If anyone is interested, the POLL is still open in the June 100 Anonymous Challenge (Workshop). Or it might continue to be a 4-WAY-TIE. Although, that's pretty cool too. :)

I thought both were good, but for me, the last line of CC's made it the winner -- not only because the detail itself is suggestive of the applicant's disturbed mind, but because of the suggestion that the application reviewer finds the bureaucratic omission the most noteworthy aspect. Very simply but effectively done.

Thank you, @HareBrain - you were spot on about the ending.

I hope it's okay for me to say this now, since the voting ends any second, and Ashleyne has things well in hand (and I have to go to bed...it's 3am here!). I wanted ambiguity in the ending...in that last line. There's even a hint, with the title - Patent Pending - that the sickest thing about the story isn't the applicant's killing and reintegrating of a man, but that there's a chance - with our warped bureaucracy - that the patent might actually be granted. :) Weird stuff!

Okay! Ursa's note just went up that Ashleyne is the official winner, so a huge congratulations to her! Well done, Ashleyne - I loved your story, and thought it was a wonderful idea, beautifully realized. Great last line. And now we'll have your choices for genre/theme for the 75 Worder starting tomorrow, and a new 300 Word Challenge starting tomorrow, so everybody wins! July should be awesome. :)

And finally, a huge thank you to those who listed my story, or voted for it in either of the rounds. It's thrilling, honestly, to receive listings or votes, and energizing to read nice words about a story. You gotta love the Challenges. On to July, CC

Thanks, CC. It was really nerve wracking to be in a tie breaker with your brilliant execution of a chilling concept.

A massive thank you to everyone who voted and wrote stories. The quality of the stories were really high and it's so much fun to be a part this competition. I'm always looking to improve my writing and these challanges are helping me do that.

I've already chosen next month's theme and genre and I look forward to seeing what people come up with.

Hear, hear!

CONGRATULATIONS ASHLEYNE!

A little bit about my story, but first a great big thank you to everyone who read my story. First, I don't write horror. Yes. Really. lol. Anyway, it was a last minute idea to get something down.

Have a good weekend folks.

congrats ashleyne, quite a race, great job !

looking forward to your choices for July , I must admit, you do tend to scare me a bit.
Bob

Many Congratulations Ashleyne!

And Well Done Cat's Cradle!

And many thanks Ashleyne for listing my story.
