Patrick Stewart returns as Picard to lead new Star Trek series

Yeah Dave. (The Abrams parallel universe ST)
They did a pretty good job of approximating a 'young' ST crew , production values looked great, and then, Abrams throws in this 'alternate universe' ST. This is not the only case of messing with a good thing to make it you own. I would not have cost any box office to keep the story they already had , put off of watching any more ST movies. (Actually the last one looked like a TV episode on steroids I was not entertained.)

I like the Kelvin timeline concept and hope the continue it .

Let's leave Kelvin timeline out since we know this is original core timeline :)

I wonder if any other actors will be returning in main or in support/camo appearances. Whilst 20 years is a long while and I'd not expect to see many return fully, it would be good to see some around! Plus there's cross over with DS9 characters and Voyager as well. So there's quite the roster of potential actors and actresses to return or make appearances.

I also hope that Guinan makes a reappearance. If any of the old cast could return and be a core cast character it would be her; not just because of her long lifespan but because of the connection she and Picard shared. Indeed that could be an entire series plotline in itself if structured right.
I'm also fully expecting to see a son/daughter from Riker and Troy appear in some form

Make it so, CBS.

I hadn't realised until now that there was a sweat shop in the bowels of the Enterprise, where some poor alien creature was producing clothing under duress**.

** - Not, please note, under Duras (son of Toral)....

Almost certainly as many as possible, where contractual obligations allow. :)

Not just from TNG either - but also DS9 and Voyager. CBS have the opportunity to really pull something big out of the works, a) just so long as they don't rush it like they did with Discovery, and b) really focus on a good story arc from the start.

Brian, maybe they'll adopt my brilliant (ahem) idea for a riven Alpha Quadrant, with the Federation torn by those clinging to the militarisation that occurred to fight the Dominion, the Cardassians trying to rebuild (could be a Weimar Republic situation), the Klingons divided between the old guard of noble houses and supporters of Martok.

Could add moral greyness and dilemmas, as well as reflecting the modern world.

The Kelvin timeline was designed to disenfranchise older loyal Trekkies who have aged out of the primary movie going demographic in favor of younger Michael Bay viewers who are easily entranced by shinny things and explosions.

I think there is plenty of room for different incarnations of Trek .

It will be interesting to see if they create the proposed new ST around Picard, or have him as just a major character as part of the bigger picture!

I really don't want to see a return of some of the ST:NG characters otherwise it will be rather a retrograde step and would show a lack of pushing boundaries (or to boldly go!)

That said, it would be nice to see Q again from time to time

Not just SOME poor alien creature ...

Even tho I have heard that Star Trek Discovery is being reworked to fix it (and it needs fixing!)....
Fantastic news! CBS finally got the message that Discovery was terrible
Discovery was okay until around the penultimate episode. After setting up the mirror universe and Klingon War they did a reset button on it all before the end. I would have liked a whole series set in the mirror universe. I would have liked a whole series set within a war. I'm not sure what we have left now, but that is all that needs fixing. The Abrams films still don't do it for me, I'm afraid. So, it might be Star Trek, but, at least, no Star Trek as we know it!

*dramatic sigh*

I am continually vexed over the fact that those who are purportedly fans of Star Trek and Star Wars do nothing but put down/complain about everything produced in those particular universes.

Thank goodness there are enough of us out here who actually appreciate the efforts of those that continue to produce stories from our beloved universes! :p

ROLL ON, CBS!

Not put downs, actually the new movies are well done and good, it's just that they could have been so much more without the re-imaginating!
