I've read this book once and that once was quite enough

No we won't get into any debates on morals or philosophy.

The Gor books, I'll hold my hands up and admit I read a few as a teenager. When younger I'd read anything, i even read a few Mills and Boons, the impression I took from the romance books was some woman are idiots who allow men to treat them like dirt all in name of love.
Any book needs to be read with an open mind, curiosity leads us to read all manner of material. Doesn't mean we agree or even like it.
Hands up how many only read Goodkind due to the bad reviews.
So, i found terry goodkind. Can you tell me the name of mills and boons?

Mills and Boons are a publisher of romance, both my mum and gran had stacks of them, not sure how they play out these days but in 70's girl had to marry a man to save family, he treated her badly but she fell in love, then something would happen and they would become close and declare undying love to each other.

David Eddings - The Diamond Throne. Very cliched and I felt cheated when he readies you for the battle and just goes to the end and says Sparhawk won. I didn't even bother to continue the series.

ouch, don't be mean. in the john ringo books women are not slaves, (well, not to him), and the sex scenes have a point. so i'm curious if the john norman books are gratuitous or have a point, for instance. just because a iread a book doesn't mean i have to aree with everything in the book. Let's not get into philosophy ou moral debates, ok?
Um... wasn't meaning to get into a debate or anything - just meant to give you a heads-up.

I'd forgotten about Goodkind, but it was recommended to me. I struggled through Wizard's First Rule and stopped there. I couldn't stomach another one.

For me it was The Elder Gods that made me lose any feelings I may have had for Eddings, same generic formula and cliches as his previous books.

That book and series was absolute crap .

the books by tom clancy are a lot on the lenghty side but are quite interesting

I tried Patriot Games. About 50 pages in I realized Clancy didn't know how people work. Haven't gone back to him, though a couple of the movies were enjoyable.

Ive read Wizards First Rule but nothing else by him. It was a tv series for two seasons.

Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo This is a superb antiwar novel set in WW I. It was well worth reading but also, very grim reading and not a book I would want read a second time.

I read that one as well. I agree. While it depicted the absolute horror that was the First World War quite well I'd never return to it.
