Discussion Thread December 2019 75 Word Writing Challenge.

@Karn's Return .... Perhaps your feelings for The Gift of the Magi are somewhat tied up with the "hopelessly in love and therefore hopelessly stupid" sub-vibe." That was the only down factor for me in O Henry's story, and @DannMcGrew solved that one for me brilliantly. But there's no way of accounting for what someone finds good and what someone else does not. It's like beauty; it's all in the eye of the beholder.

The opinion and criticism I have for the Gift of the Magi is simply but exactly this: I found it to be a long, drawn-on joke with a tiresome and predictable ironic punchline at the end. I understood the deeper side of it of course, and what you say is true to some extent about it, but my main thing there was simply on my sleeve. Much like for the "movie" Cloverfield in a way, and I use the term "movie" only in its most literal sense, as it was filmography of people and creatures moving. But my opinion of the movie was that I felt the producer should be dragged out into the street and shot.

Just my opinions, of course, of those pieces. XD But yes, I voted how I did for multiple reasons as well, and some certain ones of them I shan't be listing here. But I found the entry I voted for to be comedic and amusing in a way that is acceptable. A light touch in a subject that would with any heavier force, might rise a ruffle or two.

I'll stop there, if I know what's good for me. XD

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and I wanted to thank the one who voted for me. I do appreciate it.

Season's Greetings!

Our time for voting is rapidly coming to an end, and literally everyone is in the running. Unlike some months when 3 or so of the stories corner half the votes or more, this month there is nothing that looks to be anything close to a working lead.

Venusian Broon got my vote, I'm all about the inventive layout. Will post a list when I get a moment to whittle it down from, well, all of you.

dannymcg, J.C. Scoberg, johnnyjet, gtempel, Peter V, Starbeast, TheDustyZebra

Finalists:
HoopyFrood, Clockworkbot, Margaret Note Spelling

My vote went to Clockworkbot. I just smiled at it the most, the two times I read through the stories. Best of luck, all, in the voting. Looks to be a close race! CC

A FOUR WAY TIE!!!

This is painful and pleasurable to witness today.

THANK YOU, gigantically @Perpetual Man for the Stealth Vote. You made my cloudy day, shine bright.

PLUS, a raise of a glass to all who mentioned my entry.

Happy New Year to you all, and those you love.

Shortlisted:
@dannymcg - Twas The Night Before
@Hugh - Tuesday
@mosaix - Secret Santa
@M. Robert Gibson - Giving The Gift of Gift-Giving
@TheDustyZebra - Star-Crossed Lovers

This month consisted of a bouquet of beautiful stories about gifts, many of which about gifts you can only dream of. I think it's therefor that the story with the cynical twist spoke to me most. I recognize real life in it.
My vote goes to.... Star-Crossed Lovers.

Oh goodness, I saw the above and thought, "Yay, I have a vote!" and went to look at it, and discovered two more! Sneaky people sneaking up on me. Hugs and thanks and Christmas cookies to Elckerlyc, Cul, and johnnyjet for the lovely votes! And some of that to the folks who mentioned my story, as well. Cookies all around!

We were short on stories this month and it looks like we’re going to be short on voters as well.

Where is everyone?

The poll has closed and we have a tie.

The tie-breaker poll will be along as soon as it's ready, which should be in a few minutes.
