Discussion - January 2020 - 75 word writing challenge

I showed up too late to get into the actual challenge but was encouraged to share my writing anyway. Very nice work all around by everyone who contributed by the way. I had to vote for SB Perpetual Man though. The comedic timing was perfect.

Of a Feather

Glistening ebony feathers ruffled outwards. Sleek and shadowy, the bird nested within the fallen tree's shallow, mud packed depression and comfortably cooed into sleep's warm embrace.

The log shuddered, startling her awake. A maw of jagged bark snapped shut around her. There was darkness again, this time constricting, painful. Panicked cries echoed into oblivion unheard.

"Shame how stupid Ebony Laurels are, considering their expense." Morius remarked. "But they keep the Dragonlogs fed...and that's something."

@etaylor .... On a Feather .... etaylor writes us a story about the way life works, even if there is a pet involved.

Welcome aboard. Nice story. I will look forward to seeing what you produce next month. Feel free to vote! Everyone is encouraged to vote.

Wow! Runners up mentions! Many thanks indeed @Victoria Silverwolf and @J.C. Scoberg

And thanks as ever @Parson and @Victoria Silverwolf for the reviews.
And thank you for the thoughtful comment in red @Parson - It'd probably breach etiquette to reply while the voting is ongoing, but I may reply later.

Due to the lateness of my entry I haven't read the stories yet, but I look forward to doing so.

@J.C. Scoberg Many thanks for your vote. And a mention from @Peter V - much appreciated!
I enjoyed both stories from @johnnyjet and @Clockworkbot for their cleverness.
My short list:
@olive for a story describing an emotional place most of us pet owners have been to.
@Victoria Silverwolf for a giving me a visual moment of horror as my mind caught up with her words.
Vote goes to @Culhwch for showing how important pets (of any species) are to our quality of life.

Firstly. @Perpetual Man I am honored to be an inspiration for your story. Thank you for the laugh, my friend.

As for you, and our wonderful reviewers @Victoria Silverwolf & @Parson . Stay Awesome.

I forgot to visit this discussion thread. I had fun checking it out today. It wasn't until after I read Perpetual Man's entry that I realized my error that I missed out on reading and chatting about this month's challenge, much earlier.

Man-a-live. There are a ton of great stories that I've read (46 - nice number), not including mine. My Short List is huge again.

To the Bat Cave!

Marvelous value this month: 13 cats inc. alien relatives, an AI, and a moggy in suspended animation; 5 dogs inc. an episode of remote viewing (nice), two or 3 mice (sorry, we may have lost some to another dimension), guinea pigs, a wonderland subspecies of yeti and a goldfish. We also saw 7 humans as pets / symbiotes / vermin / kidnapped from northern England, and 13 aliens.

I think that leaves 4 (I may be wrong) creatures of comfort and solace that are not easily classified, indexed or cataloged...

I voted for the cat that waited…

Thank you, Daysman. That is lovely—a much better title than I gave it.
