Discussion - January 2020 - 75 word writing challenge

I just came across the forum, and apart from a post discussing a particular author, this is the first that caught my attention (of course then I went and read the actual short stories).

lovely tales, especially liked:
- the commentary on the superficiality and vanity of the human/pet relationship by @Cat's Cradle (#NotAllHumans but, you know),
- the nice piece of sci-fi that @elvet wove, which I'd never considered but might actually come true
- @Clockworkbot's tale, which really appealed to me for its structure and wording, for some reason (apart from the fact that it was a terrific action scene)
- @Luiglin got me chuckling, although I'm sure many others did/ might have had I understood their references.

Overall though, nice stories, nice ideas, and apparently nice people! So pleased to make your acquaintance!

I know this is far from the best post to do this, but I'll go nose around and check out the forum's rules in a minute, and hope I'm not breaking any or being annoying by posting here =)

No rules broken. Glad that you enjoyed the stories and I'm very sure you will enjoy the whole forum. If you're of an authorly bent, feel free to submit a story as well. --- Quick Caveat, family friendly and read the rules in challenge before writing. --- Welcome aboard! ---- Most of us are still looking for the off ramp, but well, you know.

@Vince W .... When You Wish Upon A Star .... Vince points us toward an unforeseen danger in being young, happy, and good looking.

@Shyrka .... Loyal to the Last .... Shy's story should have been a part of the Jabba the Hut story. It is very clever.

@johnnyjet .... Very Playful; Loves Hide and Seek .... Johnny brings us a smile and a reminder that we need to read the fine print even when buying a new pet.

@J.C. Scoberg .... The Menagerie Arcology .... JC tells us tale that points to one of today's increasingly dire problems.

Okay fellow chronners, we are rolling into the final stretch of this month's 75 with a good amount of stories and likely to have an above average month. What we haven't had was much discussion. It's disappointing to me that half the posts or more in the discussion thread have been mine, but that's my problem. So no pressure, but if you'd like to say something about this challenge or a story I'd (and I suspect I'm far from alone) would like to hear what you have to say.

Did Data have a cat? Perhaps for only one episode?

Wow,the fact that you folks really love your pets and connect with them empathically shines thru most of the stories.
This must be why I felt at home so quickly on this site even though I'm don't have much of a sff imagination.
Keep up the interesting work! Can't wait for the voting.

I viewed the last 2 episodes of season 7 of StarTrek TNG last night (in preparation for tomorrows premiere of StarTrek Picard). I can confirm Data had a cat. And I'm pretty sure he had a cat for some time before that in earlier seasons.

Boy, I don't doubt this, but I surely can't remember it. Data and a cat could make for some memorable scenes. I liked the Data character, but not as much as I liked Spock and that's surely who Data was supposed to fill the place of in the story line.

Spot was in at least one of the movies iirc. I suspect, on that ship full of ducts and Jeffries tubes, Spot had some fairly mind bending adventures of his own. :D :D

I have a story that just needs a tweak. Coming from a mad cat lady house (wife & daughter), it does not surprise me that the pet in question is a cat.

Ok I admit it, I like cats too

You are correct. Sorry, Parson. I've reduced my input over the last few months. I recently changed department, and my workload went through the roof. Coupled with recent illness, and chronic overthinking of every sentence I write, I've been quiet, whilst often here (I've written many posts which I've then deleted).

I will try to join in more. In terms of the stories, I try not to read them until they're all in now. I find if I read them as a block, I judge them more fairly against each other than if I read them piecemeal and then re-read them later.

Well, there's one I really like and will likely get my vote unless somebody else posts a corker. I'm not gonna say which one cos spoilers.

It appears that :Callopenjo, Hugh, LittleStar, Peter V and TheDustyZebra haven't yet submitted How odd not to find Ursa in the list) which would bring us comfortably into the life, the universe and everything territory, but not into record regions - I'm rather hoping that the ten year anniversary might do that.

And habitual sincere thanks to Parson and Victoria for your revues - oh, sometimes I'm not certain the stories you read were the ones I wrote - but it's always very satisfying that someone has actually read and pondered the pieces.
