Discussion Thread -- APRIL 2020 -- 300-Worder Writing Challenge (#37)

@Phyrebrat .... You'll Find Me in the Tall Wheat .... Phyrebrat tells us of a time when life both beckons and threatens.

Well, that was strange. I'm in.

It came to me this morning, and went straight down on the page this afternoon, in one go, with almost no editing. Not the sort of thing I would usually write, but, hey-ho.

@Abernovo .... A Reflection of the Monster .... Abe creates a story which drips with an anticipation of something truly monstrous.

@Luiglin .... Killing It .... Luiglin brings us back to the land of the Dark Lord and a monstrous gaff.

@mosaix .... When Can You Start? .... Mosaix helps to make a mirror the crux of a job interview.

@elvet .... Past, future, and present .... Elvet leaves me spinning as time just sort of all runs together.

It took me long enough, especially as I had the idea when I first saw the image.

But I got it done in the end... or my reflection did, I lose track these days.

@Culhwch .... MIRROR MIRROR .... Cul writes a mirror's reflection.

@Simbelmynë ....Beyond the Limits of a Phantom .... Sim tells us a story of faded love.

@Perpetual Man .... The Narcissus Trap .... Perp weaves a mirrored mystery with a punchy ending.

Phyrebrat shows how loneliness may lead to the ultimate sacrifice.

Abernovo demonstrates the truism that one should be careful for what ones wishes.

Luiglin proves that there is no accounting for taste.

M. Robert Gibson offers a demonstration of wits being more important than strength.

mosaix provides an example of the necessity of finding the right person for the right job.

elvet discovers that time is more subjective than it seems.

Culhwch reveals the real story behind the myth.

Simbelmynë relates the personal story behind an epic journey.

Perpetual Man warns against the dangers of excessive concern for self.

Celine_Brace ponders the fact that one's worst enemy may be part of one's self.

i'm in.

i went back to my draft last night to iron out a few things, realized it was awful and threw it in the electronic bin. so after having a draft written nice and early I still ended up writing a last minute story tonight, completely changing almost all of it (@The Judge I kept the painting in though).

now i'm going to have a whiskey (medicinal of course)

Unusually for me I had an idea for a story early on. Didn't write it early on, of course. As more stories came in, I realised other members had once again read my mind and half-inched aspects of my plot. Grrrr.

So I fell back on the tried and trusted technique of ripping off ... er ... paying homage ... to a famous poem. Though with my luck no one else will know it and both story and title will fall completely flat.

@Celine_Brace .... The Truth of Magic .... Celine helps us remember a great truth. Love is stronger than Black Magic.

@BigJ .... In the Eye of the Beholder .... J turns a tender tale as he brings us what we all need to remember. Love is not blind. It sees what those who don't love can't see. It is a gift which turns our world aright.

@Mr Orange .... One Night at the Museum .... Mr. O gives us a story of secret agent cool which is always detached from reality.

@Elckerlyc .... Reflections of Existentialism .... Elck shows us a man who has found his perfect calling. Just don't get too close.

@chrispenycate .... Smoke and illusions .... Chris gives us the proper prescription for a day when we think that reality sucks.

@Starbeast .... Detective Magazine #21 "One Dark Stormy Night" .... Beasty does pokes a little fun at a whole lot of media tropes.

@The Judge .... Full Sick of Shadows .... T. J. tells of breaking the chains, velvet and beautiful as they may be, that bind us from really living.
.... No, I don't know said poem. But I'll bet you know where my inspiration came from."

The mirror split from side to side
"The curse has come upon me" cried
The Lady of Shallot. :D

Oops, sorry. It's an awfully long time since 'on either side the river lay, long fields of barley, and of rye…' More than fifty years since I tirra lirra'd.
