500 Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Books You Should Read Before You Die - Members' Version

Since Hitmouse overwrote my numbers on page six of this thread in the post immediately after mine. Not to be a nitpicker, I honestly thought he posted at almost the exact same time as me and used the same numbers.

365. The Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov (can't believe that's not on here yet)
366. Foundation's Edge by Isaac Asimov (counted separately, you can stop with that one which is best and the rest worse)
367. Different Seasons by Stephen King (my personal favorite of his, don't like some of his other stuff)
368. Chasm City by Alastair Reynolds (better than Revelation Space and should be read first. Kind of dark but brilliant)
369. Codex Alera by Jim Butcher (I liked the first two and they went downhill a bit after that but not too much)
Apologies. That was unintentional and I do not know how it happened. Looks as though I did the same to @Extollager in the post before yours on p6.

As Trollheart is no longer a part of this forum, I'm not sure who is trying to keep all of this straight.

I just saw this thread and there seems to be mention of another place where the database is being kept; however I can't for the life of me figure out where it is if it exists.

Wouldn't it have made sense to just have this like the writing contest thread with a thread for suggested books that everyone can add to and a thread that can only be read that someone in charge maintains by adding the latest suggestions?

I pretty much gave up trying to make sense of this list as it is,

What happened? Nothing sinister, I hope

Nothing sinister, but we don't discuss moderator actions in public.

Makes sense to me. :)

This thread is giving me some food for thought for future reading. For instance, I tried to read some J.G. Ballard many years ago but it just didn’t click with me. I’m tempted through the recommendations here to try again sometime. Maybe a more ‘mature’ me will get on better second time around:)

Daemon & Freedom by Daniel Suarez

The Bobiverse Trilogy by Dennis Taylor

The first combination book is what I regard as Serious Science Fiction. I was a Customer Engineer for IBM and the von Neumann device that I am typing this with is beyond my expectations back then. One of my fellow CEs actually asked me, "Why do you want a computer at home?" We as a society must decide how to cope with this stuff.

The Bobiverse is more fun than Daemon and not immediately relevant.

OK, I am confused. Where is this list of 500 and how far has it gotten?

The Man in the High Castle - PKD
UBIK - PKD
