Your favorite SF Stories by Harlan Ellison?

“One Life, Furnished in Early Poverty” is probably my favorite Ellison story, but it’s probably not sf.

Paladin of the Lost Hour This is a terrific story and , so is the 1986 Twilight Zone series adaptation of it. Danny Kaye was in it.(y)

This thread must have affected the outcome of the universe in a quantum physics manner (i.e. observer influencing location), as after looking out for Ellison collections in used books stores for several years without any luck, I came across this a few days ago:

It's a mint-condition hardback, and cost a pretty penny, but I had to have it. The contents are as follows:

Commuter's Problem
Do-It-Yourself
The Silver Corridor
All the Sounds of Fear
Gnomebody
The Sky Is Burning
Mealtime
The Very Last Day of a Good Woman
Battlefield
Deal from the Bottom
The Wind Beyond the Mountains
Back to the Drawing Boards
Nothing for My Noon Meal
Hadj
Rain, Rain, Go Away
In Lonely Lands

I'll try and get to it soon(ish), but I'm midway through several things so it won't be immediately.

The Essential Ellison A 50 year Retrospective Revised and Expanded

You can get it on eBay for $25 - $30. I always look at eBay and Amazon because you never know which one will have the cheapest price. Sometimes make an offer can get you a really good deal. Many of the sellers use international shipping.

Picked up ELLISONS 35 YEAR RETROSPECTIVE.

The 50 year retrospective is and Update buts what , You still what have a great collection of his stories and essays.

And you can always buy it later one. You can never have too many Harlan Ellison's books .:D

If you find it, I recommend Phoenix Without Ashes by Edward Bryant and Harlan Ellison. Its novelization of Ellison's never used pilot script for the the ill fated tv series The StarLost , Its a quite god and give you a glimpse of the kind of tv show Ellison envisioned . Also check out Ben Bova's 'novel The Star Crossed It's a hilariously funny science fiction novel and fictionalization of the crap Harlan got put though , The book is flat out hilarious

Also get his screenplay The City on The Edge of Forever. It reads life a great science fiction novel.

Since you mentioned Star Trek .I don't remember the Eugenics War of the 1990's. :giggle:

Of course, there's the "Big Two" I'm sure all fans are familiar with, but I have a place in my heart reserved for "Jeffty is Five," which is fantasy, but I think it deserves a name drop. Also, "Hindsight: 480 Seconds," which is about a poet tasked with describing the destruction of Earth, and "I'm Looking for Kadak," which concerns Judaism and aliens.
